First mother-daughter womb transplant planned

The world's first mother-daughter uterus transplant could take place next year in Sweden, the head of an international research team in the western Swedish city of Gothenburg said Tuesday.

"We have reached a stage where we have started to plan for a human transplant and we are investigating 10 pairs, most of those are mother and daughters," Mats Braenstroem told AFP, adding the first of such transplants could take place "hopefully at the beginning of next year."

He added that transplanting a womb from a woman to her daughter would be a world first, although a uterus transplant between two unrelated women took place in Saudi Arabia in 2002.

this is going to be interesting I hope it works with no problems for the mothers & babies.
so far tests on animals have had no complications, and the tissue rejection which would be the biggest problem is not in mothers to daughters so the risk seems low... but in the article it said most of the 10 pairs of women were mother - daughter, does that mean they are going to try this with two women who are not related? most likely yes,

"I have been given an opportunity I did not think was possible," a 25-year old woman born without a uterus told tabloid Expressen. "I have always loved children.

Over the past five years I have felt intense sorrow over not being able to have children of my own," she told its competitor Aftonbladet.

The woman could receive a uterus from her 56-year-old mother, who said she no longer had any use for the organ and that it felt natural to do everything she could to help her daughter.

that is a heart warming story, I just cant help but think the woman receiving the transplant is going to give birth with the organ that she came from

so she is giving birth to a Son/Brother or Daughter/Sister

Wow. That is pretty amazing! I wish them success! This is where the medical community can really help people. And I support that.

Wow this is amazing, I hope it goes well, if it does this will change the lives of millions of women who for biological reasons their uterus could not sustain a fetus. Thanks for sharing.

wow talk about a medical breakthough , this sounds really amazing and i would be impressed if it turns out to be a success .

next thing would be to give a womb to a MAN . then we women would be happy.

Should we really be allowing this kind of Frankenstein medical science? Just so we understand correctly. The daughter is going to have her mother's womb, the same womb she herself grew inside. And now she plans to have a kid - which is also going to grow in this womb. So will the kid really be the daughter's daughter? The mother was carried by the same womb so to me they would be more like sisters. Freaky.

it is a bit freaky but if my wife could not have kids due to her uterus I would not hesitate to use an artificial one like a test tube baby i guess.

where it would get on a line for me. If be the daughter used the mothers Egg people do that its jut not for me, rather than go through all that you might as-well just adopt.

for women though I think it is the maternal instinct of carrying the child, and being that life support that really makes a mother feel like a mother.
