Greetings everyone !!

There is my first thread on ATS, after maybe three months of lurking around, I finally subscribed.

Since my early teens, pretty much as soon as I got access to internet and cut through the entairtaining bit, I have been actively seeking this sort of information. I guess the only fact that it wasn't on mainstream media to any extent that it was on internet kindled my interest and my thirst of knowledge. I kept an open mind, and didn't have any hindrances parent wise. Years after years, the information built up, connections were made, and my view started to encompass aspects that lead to question a lot of what has been taught and said as Messiah Truth. I realise that given the right context, everything would be potentially possible, and failing attempts to reproduce this environment in placebo-controlled-double-blind-peer-reviewed laboratories didn't necessarily ment that it was to be discarded together. They could be wrong...and so could I !!

I want to tell you a little story that really happened.

I was housesitting a house with a friend of mine for a couple of weeks, and even if we knew each other, we never had that level of proximity for that extent of time to discuss. My friend, whom we will call B, is a skeptic like you don't do anymore.
So everything started when he asked me what I thought was the "Chi/Ki/Prana/Mana/Vital Force/Whatever you call it".
Not really knowing where to start, I started to use words like "energy", "chakras", "meridians", "auras", "soul-body", etc. Trying to expose my views in a structured way, and in a multidimensional context. His brain pulled the brakes after the first word. And there we went: on one side, he was asking me to prove my statements (and I wish I could materialize a fireball and use it to start the barbecue), which I was doing by saying "people wrote books", "highly ranked scientists do talk about it", "quantum physics says it is theoritically possible", etc.
It got quite heated up with him being astonished at how foolish I could have been believing in this jokes. Nothing I would say would be evidence enough, or if it was, than it was the effect of something else, and loonies would use it to their advantage to promote their fallacious statements. It went on for about three hours...

At the end of the discussion, it came to belief. And he told me that believing it doesn't make it true, and that I could be wrong. I told him that if I could be wrong, then there was an equal chance that he was wrong too for the amount of evidence accumulated over the years made connections that are for me rock solid evidence.

He finally said: "I won't totally discard everything you say for the only reason that I know you are not a stupid guy".

And that was it. Three hours of debate and all I said was taken into account solely for who I was.
It is then that I realised how much I leraned from that. And how many people like that were out there. If I could provide a guy like that with the evidences that he seeks, than I could convince the whole world.

Since that day, in my studies and my search for Truth, I am doing my best to provide peple with background information that are easily verifiable, and from "reputable" sources (at least what they think is reputable).

ATS provides links and critical thinking aplenty. And I like that, for I believe from the greatest extremes will come the euquilibrium.

For the believer, proof is not necessary, for the skeptic, it will never be enough.

Thanks to all for reading this,

Love and Light

Animus, I'd like to say hello from another new member.

Your friend sounds a lot like me. Interesting story, have you found your proof yet? I am skeptical but willing and eager to look at new evidence. So far all the proof I've seen has proven only that perception truly is reality.

Anyway, I'm a new user too but wanted to extend my welcome to you, for what it's worth. You are well written and structured in your presentation, and I look forward to reading your ideas and evidence. =]

@liejunkie01: it is thanks to you that I am here, so I appreciate the welcome

@Backslider: Just the fact that you have stepped in the ATS world and are willing to keep an open mind are steps that many are unwilling to take, for the fear of loosing their ground or their beliefs their so tightly clutch. Admitting the possibility of us being wrong allows us to stay open, to grow and learn. It teaches us respect, for we won't dismiss anyone's ideas but rather listen without judgement, and then we can see wht is the real message.

To answer your question about the proof, I could say yes and no at the same time. IMPOV, I have had plenty of them, but they would or wouldn't be called as such for you. It is a personal experience before all, and many paths lead to the same place. You are the experiment and the observer altogether, and trying to find proof outside of your own perception is a waste of time, for it will never be enough.

However, I have nowadays adopted the same position as capod2t: I don't try to convert people into what I believe or even what I think is right. They have their free will, and so do I, and listening to their story brings understanding. It is a waste on energy that to try to convince people of what they know in their heart is foolish, and on top of that I become even more foolish in their eyes. Instead, I plant the seeds, they decide what they want to do with it. I am here to help, and doing so with Love as far as my own limitations bring me.

I welcome you also, and hope you will find your journey pleasant.

@capod2t: Thanks for the llink
I learned from that experience, and adopt pretty much the same attitude than you. Love is the key, especially to ourselves.

Welcome aboard and in response to your post I can only tell you what I know...

You can't convince people, its truly a wonder at how closed minded and ignorant people are, even among the intelligent. In fact, its been a sad and relative truth that some of the most intelligent people I know are among the most closed minded individuals in the world.

Don't spend time trying to convince people to try to be more open minded. What you're really doing is bursting their safety bubble... their world bubble if you will. They feel intelligent, needed, important in their world. If you mess with it they will despise you for it.

Study and Grow for your own purpose... be forever open minded, be a dreamer....

And remember one thing, the dreamers made this world in their image, its the closed minded that have to live by their rules.

And truly, these people (or most of them) have worked hard to reach this state of security and stability. So it is not only pointless, but disastrous for them if we do succeed in convincing them for the sheer difference in the tide will wash their sanity away.

It is like these people who go to so-called Gurus and get all their chakras opened at once, experience a Kundalini rush and end up in the asylum... Like someone said on one post I have read, people are like flowers, they will bloom when they will, all at their very own rate.

The worst thing is however to see that people choking back every opportunity of growing for a world that doesn't make them happy anymore and fiercely resisting any introspection.

It is a journey.

Here are some viewpoints for you to chew on:

The "just because you believe it doesn't make it true" gambit:

There is some science on this indicating that it is not totally correct. If something you believe does not go ridiculously beyond your own area of control, such as your own mind and body, then what you believe can become true.

www.openexchange.org...
(Dr. Bruce Lipton)

This is one reason your friend is so insistent: His own belief that he must be right.

Belief has a huge influence on perception of truth. There are some "beliefs" that are so "obvious" that few would ever think to challenge them. Such as "I can't go through that wall; its solid" or "I can't move something without touching it." Yet certain individuals have somehow managed to disagree with these "obvious" beliefs and done such things, with witnesses.

Considering this, "prove it" is a bit of a lame challenge.

There are many facts that you could prove in a court of law that would never gain widespread acceptance as facts because of opposing belief systems.

So don't let the naysayers get you down. What is truly possible might be much more than even you are willing to believe. And it might only take belief to make it so! The world is a stranger place than many would like to think!

Thanks for the link

Indeed, his reality made his truth, and likewse for the rest of us. If you read my answers to liejunky and others above, you would see that I adopted a different approach to things.

He would ask for proof though, regarding this guy going through a wall, etc.
"..."
"In a book ? Anyone can write books"
"... !"
"On TV? Everything on TV is not necessarily true"
"...!!!" mad:
"On the news ? Than he is a good illusionist"
"... !!!!!!!"

"Checked by state-of-the-art illusionists ? Then he is on to some new tricks no one knows about !"
"..."

"Hey dude, let's have a drink and watch a movie, hey ?"

And believe me, it went in quantum physics, and neck deep in metaphysics, including belief and impact on reality...
At the end we were throwing sharpnel of "standard-placebo-controlled-double-blind-peer-reviewed-studies" evidence fron our grounds. And it wouldn't do any good.

Regarding the other extreme of belief, like it shaping our immediate reality such as walking through a wall, I know it can be done. I know we can as a whole potentially do a LOT, and I seriously mean a LOT, where every single fantasy/magic movie would be put to shame. However few do develop this, as it does take huge willpower, dedication and of course our own individual limitation play a role too.
People who do heal from cancer using alternative methods have a shift in their perspective, many a patient found links between their destructive patterns of thoughts and their illness.
