major power outage is affecting several areas in and around downtown Detroit. Street lights and traffic lights are also out causing issues for drivers trying to get around the city. The Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, the McNamara Federal building and Frank Murphy Hall of Justice have all been evacuated. Cobo Center is also without power.
Many street lights and traffic lights in the area are out.
Wayne State University is also affected by the outage and has canceled all classes for the rest of the day. Classes will resume on Friday, unless otherwise notified.
The Wayne County Community college downtown campus and administration building are also closed because of the outage.
A major power outage has evacuated the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center and several other public buildings downtown. Employees in the complex that houses City Hall and the Wayne County Circuit Court civil division were asked to leave about 2 p.m. Power also is out at Cobo Center, nearby parking garages, federal facilities including the McNamara Building , some schools and several streetlights near Woodward and Jefferson. Crews are on the scene, but the building is closed for the day, a city spokesman said. All Public Lighting Department customers are affected except the Detroit Medical Center, the spokesman said.
