Hey Guys,

Thought I would share something I came across
today. Apparently this occurred a couple of days ago....


A group of young MIT students has developed a new type of battery that runs on a rechargeable liquid fuel. The inventors call the fuel "Cambridge Crude," and if the technology makes it to market, refueling an electric car could be as easy as pulling up to a pump.



Another potential advantage is that in vehicle applications, such a system would permit the possibility of simply “refueling” the battery by pumping out the liquid slurry and pumping in a fresh, fully charged replacement, or by swapping out the tanks like tires at a pit stop, while still preserving the option of simply recharging the existing material when time permits.

My instant thought was a pump that would serve 2 functions in 1 nozzle, both to suck out the old spent electric fuel and then pump in the fresh stuff.

I wonder if this break thru is real.... I heard somewhere that using electricity is harmful to the earth as well, since it takes fossil fuels to generate? Will this be silenced just like the electric car?

Besides, with the Chevy Volt, you don't have to worry about getting stranded like you do with the Nissan Leaf...I would rather support my country by buying an American car anyway...

What makes the Volt better exactly? My thing is.... both of these vehicles are still not really effective "green" technology, since they both depend on fuel one way or another...

Every vehicle requires fuel. Might be the cheeseburger so you can peddle but its still fuel.

EVs have the ability to charge from solar panels. that is as green as it goes.

Now large fields of solar panels recharging and pumping fresh go juice.....thats something.

It seems to me that this technology would not be buried as they could make money off it by selling the liquid material to refuel the vehicle. Also money to be made by the patenting of the device that removes the fluid and replaces it.

So I was working on sources to make the thread...not exactly the forum I would have put it in, but even so the mods woulda moved it anyways...but the point the search tool is useful even if the breaking new or other current events are three years old...I just heard of this stuff today, came to ATS to share, and low and behold an old dead thread NOW RESURECTED!

Yay energon! This is exactly what I've been waiting on since I was watching the transformers cartoon as a kid...liquid energy that can be stored and quickly accessed, refilled.

the top 1% would have green-energy produced fuel replacement slurry or the time-demanding re-charge of the battery-pallet (10-20 batteries in series)


so the logistics of solar panel farms that require acres of collectors can be met---but only for the 1% not the hordes of useless eaters of the former middle class... all of them will be boxed in to mass transit systems...

just look at China to see just where the USA is going (albeit with some tweekes)


i had some time ago pondered on the infrastructure of a all EV transportation system,,, with a battery pack replacement done by a fork-lift type mobile device which would swap out a depleted battery pack with a full charged battery pack in a matter of minutes so the EV can travel yet another 400-500 miles in their long distance journey

let's see just how toxic this battery fluid replacement 'fuel' is...
we might just have a milder Fukushima at each & every electric 'fill' station in the nation if adopted !

The private market will not see this battery.

The US government subsidizes the auto industry.. I know some of you folks will say it's not the same thing but it is - remember the buyout/bailout of the big US auto makers?

If the government wants this they will simply take it, no patents, no rich young MIT kids no free enterprise. Then they will bury it - why - because it competes with the petro dollar - much more so for it's cost effectiveness than the standard EV battery does now.

Obama doesn't want alternative energy for us, he's lied through his treasonous teeth since he started running. Look at his track record.

I personally think the best way to refuel an electric car would be to do it just like you would change the battery in everything else. Or maybe like swapping out a propane canister in a barbecue grill. You standardize the battery packs, and then just swap them out for a reasonable fee. It would take less than a minute if you had everything standardized all set up and in place to begin with. The "gas" stations could even get a machine to automate it.
