Tests pointed to beansprouts grown at a farm in the greater Uelzen area between Hamburg and Hanover being responsible for the health crisis that has now killed 22 and left another 2,153 people ill across Europe.
Eleven people in Britain were among those taken ill with food poisoning apparently linked to the bug. People in northern Germany were last night warned to stop eating the beansprouts, which are often used in salads.
