I came across this article. I just thought it was very interesting, considering all the threads on HAARP and Global Warming. I'm not sure what it is, but something is going on.

2011 Tornado Statistics

Month___________Forbes Count _________10-Yr Average_______Departure from Average
Jan _________________ 16 _________________ 22 _________________ -32% Actual
Feb_________________ 61 __________________32_________________ +91% Actual
Mar _________________ 75_________________ 83_________________ -10% Actual
Apr (573 confirmed)_____762_________________163 _________________ +367% (Forbes estimate)
May_________________ 332 _________________298 _________________+11% (Forbes estimate)
June (through 2nd) ______13 _________________16_________________ -19% (Forbes estimate)
2011 (to date) _________1262 ________________614 _________________+106% (Forbes estimate)
We've had almost as many tornadoes in 2 days in June, as the 10-year average!

"Only 8 years in history have had more tornadoes for a full year than we've already had this year, the most being 1819 in 2004," Dr. Forbes points out. "We've had almost twice as many tornadoes thus far this year as happened to date in that record year (2004)! "

This quote stuck out. This is very alarming, in my opinion.

Interesting post. And I completely agree with you about something going on.

If you can't see that something's going on after the Massachusetts tornadoes, then you're blind. At least IMO. The first tornado started 3 miles from where I live, and it's amazing how much damage it did.

Now, before anyone comes in here and says that MA tornadoes are not unheard of, keep in mind that, while tornadoes here in general are not unheard of, damaging/serious tornadoes are pretty darn rare. I honestly cannot recall any tornadoes this bad here..

Tornadoes are not unheard-of in this state. About three happen every year. What has never happened before is the Super Cell Storm that produced mulitple tornadoes in a short time period. That happens in the Midwest. It's expected. Lifelong Massachusetts residents expect hurricanes and Nor'Easterners- Yankees can handle them. Tornadoes are unheard-of. Hopefully, they will not become a regular guest.

When looking at stuff like this, you can't look at the "10 year average". the earth has been around for billions of years. A 10 year average is nothing, it may be more then the 10 year average, but it may be nothing compared to the 100 year, 1000 year. You get what I mean?

Did you read the quote below, in my original post?

exactly. it is hard to determine a pattern without all the information. we have so little information, especially about the past climate, how can we know what is "record breaking". These seem like turbulent times, but who really knows?

Tornadoes happen. Sometimes there are more than others if the right weather conditions set up. Every single year that I have been on ATS I've read multiple "omgz crazy weather" threads. Nothing has changed.... Earth can have severe weather, this is normal.

while the records speak for themselves and suggest 'something' is going off, maybe natural, maybe not, there is also the possibility that these types of tornado's have occured in the past and every so often do so due to earth changes. the earth has gone into hot/cold periods and haves cycles, maybe they have happened at sometime in the past as a result of more natural occurences. remember we can only work from recorded record's, how many years have they been recorded for? 100 years? 200?

my point is although they are the worst on record does not mean there has to be 'something' going off. it could just be nobody has ever witnessed them before or they happened at a time when they were NOT recorded.
