who would have known that Rosa parks refusing to give up her bus seat to a white woman would have made a huge change to how different races are treated.

maybe if more people refuse to sign up for a service that supports a government they dont want asking them to fight in wars they dont agree with then change could happen to remove the law.

It's..... society, worthless society that want all the entitlements (free rides) yet don't want to Do anything in return, or rather dodge their military duty keeping this country secure. You want all the benefits that the men in uniform have given their lives for, but you want to set at home and watch it on your flat screen. You are not worthy to be an American fella. You don't mind supporting from afar, so long as you can swipe your card of give lip service, and then be off on your trip to the mall. You sir disgust me, and I say 'sir' loosely.

Your paragraph full of assumptions was quite nauseating. Especially the part about the military (who is currently in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and wherever else) "securing" this country. If that's what they were doing, they'd be in Washington going up against men in suits.

Yeah, well my responsibilities lie with my kids. And being a martyr will not put braces on their teeth, or food on the table.

I live in a sea of mendacity. I will not waste my life by being a ripple. Now, if you know a few thousand others i am all for being part of a wave.

Till then, the "difference" i will make it breaking a cycle in my own family by being a good and relevant father to my kids. It is more than I had, and may just improve the chances of my family line in the future. That is my contribution, and i feel a damned noble one.

Look, every male in the US has to register with the selective service when they turn 18. It's the law.


Don't worry, the draft is never coming back... We have a waiting list as it is and it is an all volunteer army....

Just register, Don't go to jail where they will get you registered anyway....

You want money from the Government to go to school, follow the rules.

Don't like it? Don't get the funding. Period.

No big deal. If you'd have done your research before you applied you would have known this was a condition.

Almost all male U.S. citizens, and male aliens living in the U.S., who are 18 through 25, are required to register for the military draft. However, men who currently register are not automatically inducted into military service. Currently, the United States operates its military through volunteer enlistment. The last time men were inducted into the military was during the Vietnam War. Registration for a possible future draft is required to ensure America's preparedness in the event of a military crisis. In the event of a crisis that necessitates a draft to be invoked, men would be called in sequence determined by random lottery number and year of birth. They would then be examined for mental, physical and moral fitness by the military before being deferred or exempted from military service or inducted into the Armed Forces. You may register as soon as you reach the age of 17 years and 3 months but must register within 30 days of turning 18.

Here are all the things they will do if you don't register:

Failure to register is a violation of Federal Law. Conviction for such a violation may result in imprisonment for up to five years and/or a fine of not more than $250,000.
You can expect to be denied a driver's license
You may become ineligible for federal benefits for life
DISQUALIFICATION FOR STUDENT FINANCIAL AID
DISQUALIFICATION FOR CITIZENSHIP
DISQUALIFICATION FOR FEDERAL JOB TRAINING
DISQUALIFICATION FOR FEDERAL JOBS

And it makes me wonder...if its mandatory and no one has a choice, then why do they make you even register at all? Why not just draft a person through the IRS or the Social Security number system if the Selective Service is ever needed.

Also on a side note, I see that one of the punishments for not registering is the denial of a drivers license. It seems like more and more things are being tied to a person's drivers license, and the loss or denial of it is being used as punishment for non driving related things.

So they take away certain jobs, financial aid, and your license? They cancel your life... lol

Because certain Congressmen get their girly panties all bunched up and think they're still fighting 1969's dirty hippies. And they force the bureaucracy to do dumb things because voting against it is "Soft on Defense".
