UK Suspend Fraking/Shale Drilling Yay!!!!

This morning (Thursday) I understand that the drilling company have announced that they are stopping drilling permanently as the taxes they have to pay do not make it cost effective! Reported on Radio2 this am.

The cost prohibitiveness of 'fracking' was explained to me in uni, as being so prohibitive, the dangers of fracking so high, that oil companies would have to be absolutely on their knees to get gas in this way. The likelyhood of fracking being used was next to nil as most major fuel suppliers have all got 'green' alternatives for power safely locked up in their safes for when 'needs must'.

This makes me wonder therefore why in the US especially they are carrying out so much of this fracking.

People call me crazy for singing the HAARP song toward earthquakes with no proof and yet here we are talking about fracking with NO PROOF!!! There are wild claims as to this but Puterman you are claiming that fracking induces earthquakes??? MAN I had much more confidence in your word until now......The moment I bring up HAARP and earthquakes with the exact same amount of proof NONE, everyone starts their whining and complaining about blaming HAARP. This is the first time I have EVER heard anyone blame fracking for earthquakes though...

So a BGS scientist saying they are most likely related is in no way worthy of attention?

Yet by your own admission, you will believe HAARP causes quakes even though there is zero proof for that.

So are you honestly saying that pumping tonnes upon tonnes of chemically enhanced water into the ground to cause solid rock to fracture is at all good for the planet ?

Go and read some of the 200+ pages of replies from the people of Arkansas that are having their lives destroyed by Fracking.
Go and read some of the 100's of links I directed you to.

You spout on about HAARP this and that with no proof that HAARP can cause quakes, yet are unwilling to digest pretty conclusive information that fracking causes quakes. Yes they are small quakes, but quakes none the less.

I will give you the answer that is given to me all the time when I talk about earthquakes.

Earthquakes are a natural disaster, Nobody can alter mother nature's work.

But I guess in your eyes someone drilling a hole in the ground can cause that? Right??

There are more people drilling holes deeper in the ground running tests than someone pulling natural gas or oil out of the ground.

I will never be able to change your minds as you won't be able to change mine. All I can say, is if they had concrete evidence on this, why would a bill be passed to allow fracking?? This bill was passed very recently...If there was a danger to this earth because of it BELIEVE me there would be activists ALL over it!! If by your claims MOST LIKELY caused by fracking is evidence in your mind.....How do you feel about aliens? How about any highly speculative topic on here? It is most likely because of (whatever) but you and others still will believe the other side, but in this case just to argue with me, you are saying this is proof for some reason???

At no point have I said that drilling causes quakes ... that is a stupid statement to make.
I HAVE said that I think the Fracking causes the quakes. Poisonous Fracking Fluid pumped under the extreme high pressures that breakes up solid rock causes small quakes.
Please take time to read some of the threads I have already posted twice and you choose to not bother reading.... actually why am I either bothering to try to explain to you again. You wont listen.

with all the bad press that comes with fraking system i think that this good news .
but i would also point out that the system involves pumping water into the shale in order to extract the gas , where the hell is this water going to come from ?
in the uk if we have more than a few days of fine weather , the water companys can not handle it .
we get hose pipe bans there is even talk of fining people for washing their cars or windows .

The problem is that academics have a long history of crying wolf so it's very difficult to know when to take them seriously. Look at California. Academics used their "research" to convince the government to force the oil industry to add MTBE to auto fuel because it would reduce pollution. Consumers paid for MTBE additives through higher prices at the pump. 30 years later, those same academics had to admit that MTBE is a major cancer causing agent and because they forced the oil industry to add it to gasoline, well water in CA is contaminated with their research. Most of the time man's meddling is worse than leaving things alone. We should consider the dangers of fracking but there must be far more correlation of claims before we all conclude the sky is falling just because chicken little says so.
