Admiral Alan West, a senior British Naval Officer, has speculated that Al-Qaida was planning an attack in Gibraltar or in a narrow boat passage such
as the Suez Canal. In June of 2002, terrorists were arrested trying to do just that. But this has come to light again after Admiral West made public
his suspicions.

LONDON (AP) - Al-Qaida and other terrorist groups are plotting attacks on merchant shipping, a senior British naval official was quoted as saying Thursday.
``What we've noticed is that al-Qaida and other organizations have an awareness about maritime trade,'' Adm. Alan West, the first sea lord, told Lloyd's List newspaper. ``They've realized how important it is for world trade in general (and) they understand that significance.''
West said the biggest risk was in ports and narrow waterways such as the Strait of Gibraltar and the Suez Canal. It is ``almost impossible'' for terrorists to attack a ship on the open sea, he said.

It seems that this terrorist warning may have some truth behind it. However, in this time of fear and uneasiness, accusations will fly. With terrosist attack threats coming from every which way I think it's important to take this particular warning with a grain of sand.
