SH'sTF internet?

So, in a big shtf scenario, could I find anyone else using the internet? Assuming I get power, and get a dish pointed at a still working sattelite, how would I find an up and running site?

I guess it would depend on the SHTF scenario.

Zombies? Yes.
EMP? No.
Economic collapse? Yes.
All out NBC war? No.
My in-laws moving in with me? God, I hope so!

Well, I might be thinking about this wrong, but I was thinking that there is probably a billion web addresses...I start going through them one by one? (Site not responding, site not responding, site not responding)...lol

What would you need it for?
Government sites may have info.
E-mail for communication.


I think just staying alive would take up much of anyones time.

Forget hub and spoke internet,

Peer networking is your only option.

Once power goes out, you won’t have any connection to the interwebs. I suggest we relearn the old ways. Semaphore, Morse…smoke signals? Texting will take a long time in the new world.

Concentrate on shortwave radio, there will be many freedom networks.

Preferably the kind that is hand-crank powered.

If the SHTF that bad I wouldn't be worried about getting on the internet, I suppose if some that survived that knew how to get it back up in their areas it would be possible, but trust me if the mud hit rim the internet would be last on my list first would be making a better windmill and creating a better solar grid for my water pump.

I don't know about internet however in a major power outage or emp/cme wipeout. having a labtop would come in handy for data retention.. Before you tell me the batteries will die out here might be a solution..

Was looking into it cus was thinking about smokeless cooking and heating. Mind you it might get exhausting. was wondering if something like this would generate enough electric for a portable electric stove/hot plate. Which would also help with those Hungry nights when you couldn't have a fire.
If not does anyone have something as portable that would work?

I would forget about the internet. My suggestion? Get into Ham radio. Besides, if the internet was comprimised, wouldn't it be that much easier for the people in power to track you? Considering how the traffic was decreased?

I will leave smoke signals that are 20 miles high you gone be ok its just might be graduation time tis all.

there are alot of variables to this situation

1 it depends on how the providers keep and maintian there systems and how well and how long that back power generators last.

2. it depends on geographic location and what specific event occur.

3. ham radio and shortwave will be were its at but then agian that depends on how many repeaters remain online and how well that are maintained and how much generator fuel they have on hand.

4. ham radio does have its own internet if i remember the name its dstars or something like that.

5. satellite wether is depends on the ground stations and how the keep and mantain there systems.

in my opinon a total collapse of communications in a shtf scenario there would still be ways to communicate.

altho they would not be close to the standards that we are acustomed to in this day and age.

theres only one shtf event that everyone should have concerns about ok well two of them

emp and a solar magnetic storm but even then ham radio would mitigate most concerns.

long range communications would be effected for some time but uhf and vhf people would still be able to communicate however long range com would be down for at least a couple of days if from my reading i have understood things correctly.

2 m to 6m bands on ham radio cover the most part of this country and canada and mexico of course that is dependent upon atmospheric conditions.
