I am open-minded about it, and more than willing to listen to anyone who can answer my questions. However, all I receive from people when I state my views is name calling or total disregard. How can I be expected to change my views if nobody gives me any good reason to? I have yet to hear anyone state why they think rape is one of the most terrible things, if not the most terrible thing, someone can do to someone else. I'm not intentionally being "idiotic" as you say, I'm just not being emotional. The only reason I can think that people think it's so bad is because they were conditioned to think so by everyone else saying the same thing and never hearing any opposition to such stances. But like I said, I'm not close-minded on the subject at all, and I would honestly love to hear a good reason as to why I'm apparently so wrong.

Some punishments dont appear to fit the crime.

This is right up there with exactly how justice should be handed out. I have 3 children and if anyone touched them, I would hand out swift justice myself. It would be a pleasure.

Why is everyone in this thread so blood thirsty? Hanging someone or stoning them, won't return the innocence that was lost during the crime.

I think there are more things that we could do with people that commit these crimes instead of just hanging them as if we were in the 1800's. We're in the year 2011, but yet from reading this thread I still think we haven't progressed much from the Witch Hunts, and all those crazy things that were done in the middle ages.

What does killing a rapist accomplish? Aside from just providing a quick fix to problems that we don't want to face? Does it provide comfort to the family of the victim? it might, but if it does then the family is equally as wicked.

Whats next? are you guys going to light up some torches and go hunt for Ware wolves in the woods?

Its called justice. If you take away innocence from a child, you deserve everything you get. It has to be the worst type of crimes, that against children.

Its not bloody thirsty, its called parental love.

I would hurt them for hurting my child. simple

It is blood thirsty because you want someone else to be killed to provide you with comfort. You are asking for more death.

You're looking at it in an extreme simplistic manner.
Take in to consideration some issues here:

- When someone is victimized through rape, or other horrendous crimes, why should the victim pay for the victimizer's welfare?

- Why should anyone think twice about rape, when the punishment for such a horrendous crime is free food, free housing, free medical checkup and treatment, all at the expense of the victims?

Two simple aspects to this, you should reflect upon. There is no justice, nor any prevention of crime when the victim pays for the victimizer's welfare. That is the "opposite of justice", and "the opposite of the fundamental reason why laws are created" in the first place.

I cant believe I am going to say this.....But...... For once I agree with Sharia Law...

Facts:
1) If a child turns you on, you are broken.
2) If you are broken, we shouldn't foot the bill to fix someone that cant be fixed.
3) If you look hard enough, you'll find a positive in everything!

Islam is wicked, evil and nasty...... But for once I say "Go Muhhamad" .... Wait.... Hold up...... Muhhamad was a violent pedophile himself...... Ok back to confused and hating Islam!

Up until 2008, the death penalty was on the table for child rapists and molesters in Louisiana. Unfortunately, our Supreme Court saw otherwise and struck it down.

WASHINGTON — The death penalty is unconstitutional as a punishment for the rape of a child, a sharply divided Supreme Court ruled Wednesday. Related Justices to Decide if Rape of a Child Merits Death The 5-to-4 decision overturned death penalty laws in Louisiana and five other states. The only two men in the country who have been sentenced to death for the crime of child rape, both in Louisiana, will receive new sentences of life without parole.

If this isn't the federal government stepping on state's rights I don't know what is. It kills the child. Sure, we're still breathing (barely), but we're far from "living". It's only justice that the offender die also. It isn't like Iran. These people in these states were given a fair trial and found guilty. Taking them out prevents more victims in two ways. They can't molest more children and the children they would have molested don't become molesters themselves.

Because there really is no capital punishment. If you commit a crime, are convicted, and sent to "death row," you're going to sit there for 20 years waiting for your endless appeals to run out. A man or woman on death row is more likely to die of old age than lethal injection.

I meant as in years ago, where hanging & the like were commonplace, within weeks of the offence.
