There is a bit more to it than just saying college is a waste of money. For many fields, going to college may very well may be a waste, but for the
science fields, there is really no way around it. I'm decent at learning on my own, but honestly its going to be hard to learn a subject like Organic
Chemistry without attending university. Especially when one considers the lab work that is involved!
I love going to school, but I do see many kids going to school with absolutely no bloody idea about what they want to do. They think a college degree
means a job, but we all know it isn't that simple. However, if they are reasonably intelligent, they hopefully do get something out of the experience.
There is an exposure to new ideas and also a bit of help in learning to think clearly and rationally that can be gained through university, if one has
the right professors and the right frame of mind. And for those that don't give a darn for learning, there are always the social aspects to college as
well. I believe many people see college as a way to form a useful network of individuals that they can then use later when they need them, whether it
be for business or whatever.
