Hi ATS, I am new here and just getting started.

My son talked about ATS and showed me the website and urged me to make an account here. Everything looks very interesting and has a lot more subjects than I originally anticipated.

I don't frequent any other forums, so I am not the best at typing replies, but am willing to learn.

I am a mother and grandmother and have been married for 37 years. I home-school my youngest boy. When I am not doing that, I enjoy gardening, sewing, and crafts. My husband and myself have fun woodworking, building furniture for our home and our family.

Don't laugh at me to hard, but I really like watching my soap opera - 'Days of our Lives'

I think I am pretty normal, I am concerned with politics of my country and the world. I am concerned about the education system and the direction it is headed. The taxes of the government and state that are imposed on us interest me too. I am trying to learn more about why some of these things are the way they are and if there is anything I can do as an individual to help change.

I am kinda shy talking on here - since it is the first time I have ever had a 'persona' on an internet. I am not sure when it is appropriate to respond to someone with my opinion, if it is OK to disagree with them and write about it.

I am learning a lot, but I didn't grow up with computers, so there is a lot to learn!

Can you Ladies and Gentlemen, please, give me your suggestions of what is absolutely crucial to know as a new member?

I look forward to reading what you all say to me and am kinda nervous too. I hope to be able to respond to you all every day. Will it offend anyone if it takes longer than a day to respond to them?

I apologize for all the questions and I do hope you all will take the time to help me out as I get started here.

Welcome and hope to see you post! We have a lot of home schoolers here ( me too) and Id love to see some more "radical homemaker" stuff

Just for you, Ill admit: I used to watch Days of Our Lives.. but it was purely for the conspiratorial intrigue and demonic possession of Marlena.

Nothing wrong with home schooling. After hearing my nephews discuss all the awesome "facts" they learned in school, I'm definetly considering home schooling my 3 year old. Welcome to ATS.

I understand what you mean about the things taught in many public schools. My youngest son was getting picked on constantly in school and being made fun of al the time, everyday because he has red hair and wasn't 'into' the things many other kids were into.

He had to spend so much time dealing with the bullies and worried about who was going to hit him, try to lock him in a locker, or put him down using horrible language next - who knows where they learned, probably their parents or the TV/internet-, that he didn't have the concentration to learn what was being taught in class anyway... even if what was being taught was good knowledge.

welcome beanpolekitten.

I'm sorry to hear about what your son has gone through, and its good he has the option of being homeschooled. Many children that get bullied ,don't have that option.

As far as the things to know about being on a forum like this..I suggest you read all the links this site supplies to newcomers. You will get them in your introduction thread.

Very good advice in them, which I have neglected to use at times, and wish I had.

There is a vast array of opinions, and attitudes ,that I have seen on this site.

Looking back I wish I had handled some of my diffences of opinions diffently , so I guess my words of wisdom would be to think twice before you enter text.

once again .welcome..I'm sure you will find many people in here, that you can learn from..I know I have.
