Brainwashing at it's finest. Remember these guys?

Today being May 21, 2011 the supposed day of the rapture, I went to familyradio.com to see what their response was to the rapture not happening and what would you know, the website is not working.

Anyway, this familyradio group kind of reminded me of Heaven’s Gate, which reminded me that last I checked, about 5 years ago, their website was still online. I had stumbled on it and was amazed how much information could still be found on that site. I remembered reading suicide letters from members of the group on why they have decided to kill themselves and this and over info gave me a solid view of just how far brainwashing could go.

Today I checked and the Heaven’s Gate site is still online.

I’m posting this as a resource for anyone also interested in a look at how far brainwashing can go, the techniques used, and the people involved.

Thanks for sharing this! it really would have never even crossed my mind to see if there was still any original content of this out there or to look for it.

...But I honestly feel that brain washing is a very in depth process that happens over a period of time..
What I feel this man did is just simply found people like he did in the past that had the same mind set and beliefs as him that were very vulnerable and took hold of that control and ran with it or maybe they were even searching for a purpose of this nature.

The way I see real brain washing is taking an individual and slowing subjecting them to behavior modification techniques and cognitive ones as well over a very long period of time slowly taking away the persons core identity and conforming it to that of the controller..Often seen done to children in fundamentalist groups that are exposed to the outside world , kid napping victims or someone who's in an abusive relationship and some cults..typically when you look at the original personality of a victim of these technique they will often come off as a very strong individual and you'd never think they could fall victim to something of this nature..There was one cult story I remember hearing that reminded me of this it had something to do with Yoga in NYC the specifically looked for rebellious young people that were lost and had no real spiritual connection and completely conformed them, This is what I feel the difference is with the majority of the family radio people..I don't think they were necessarily brain washed but more likely had the same "passion" for something and didn't need very much persuasion or modification to follow the main leader.

If you research this more you will find this cult controlled it’s followers much like all cult's do. It always starts with like minded folk because they are the best prey. Some of the Heaven's Gate followers were subjected to years of studies (reprogramming) on top of day to day control and supervision.

I would imagine there are more extreme cases of brainwashing but what I think is important is people see how easy it can be to fool large numbers of people and to be able to avoid that kind of deception.

Now I feel bad about having wrote a song called heaven's gate!
