HAZMAT situation in Pueblo West

Number of affected people was downgraded to 15. The rest of people who work there are just kept outside. No information is being given to them. Symptoms reported were 'nausea, closing throat, and strong skin rash'

Thank you for the update. There still doesn't appear to be a declaration of the cause of the event. No chemical has been detected yet, but with a strong rash, that appears to be an irritant of some kind.

As few as 3 people initially complained about symptoms. They were the ones who went to the hospital, escorted by couple others. All were from the same department. The company is Document processing division of the Colorado State, located in the Industrial Park near Pueblo Airport. Company, itself, doesn't deal with any HazMat/chemicals.

Majority of people who do not exhibit any symptoms are just kept outside of the building, in the open air car park. They were advised not to approach their vehicles at a risk of contaminating them, but this restriction is not being pro-actively enforced. Overall, maybe around 100 people work there, probably less.

Pueblo: sample taken from site

The Pueblo Health Department has collected a sample of an unknown substance from the site of a hazardous material incident in Pueblo. The sample has been taken back to a lab for testing.

Well at least we know they are still investigating this incident. This additional news blurb also said three more people had sought treatment.

Perhaps there will be more information forthcoming.

My husband reported that the chatter on the cb was that something of this nature happened about 3 weeks ago at a school. The chatter was speculating that this was somehow coming from the underground bases/tunnels.

Can anybody put data or info about something on RSOE EDIS?

I ask because i found something about a hail storm in Vermont ok the date is cut off but it says 2011-05-21.

Thanks for the info. Maybe that is why they are keeping it so toned down. They have been through this before. I am still waiting to hear from my Aunt. When I do, I will post what I find out.

I thought of this same exact thing earlier when this thread first came up.
I think there were two incidents in a week of school kids having these same symptoms.

I never found out what the causes were, though.

There were threads here on them; but I wouldn't even know what to type in a search term to look for them. Maybe someone here subscribed and can find them easily.

Yeah I posted the story it was in Loveland Co. but mods moved it to the BTS/off topic sections but it seems to be all most the same as the school kids suffered

They never really talked about anymore just said the school was safe so that was it.whats the latest on the new development going on

16 People Sickened In Pueblo, Cause Unknown

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office says they're investigating an unknown substance exposure, after 16 people were sickened with symptoms of chemical exposure. However, no chemicals have been found at this time. The PCSO says that nothing "chemical or otherwise, that would lead to the symptoms of those decontaminated" has been found. "We checked everything," Woody Percival, the Public Information Officer for the Pueblo Fire Department, said in a statement released by Pueblo County. "There is no obvious source for what we saw today. We have exhausted our list of things to check for and ways to check for them."

According to the updates to KKTV.com, they haven't yet been able to determine the cause of the exposure. I read several accounts that those exposed were very ill with nausea and vomiting, breathing difficulties and a severe rash. Also, it appears that it was easily communicated from one person to the other with contact. Even one hospital employee was being treated for contact.

On a more personal note, my Aunt was detained, along with other coworkers, for several hours, monitored by HAZMAT aide workers. The event happened on a different floor from where she worked. She said they told them nothing about what they suspected it was. The HAZMAT people were loosely monitoring their calls, according to what she told my MOM. She said they advised the workers to closely monitor their health and to report any adverse events.

So, we still have an event, with adverse reactions, with no known (as of yet) cause.

PCSO says that seven of the eight Integrated Document Solutions employees are in good condition, and will remain in the hospital for observation. One employee is in fair condition, and has been decontaminated and transported to Parkview Medical Center's main facility, according to PCSO. Anyone who was in the general area of the Pueblo Memorial Airport Industrial Park on Friday is asked to admit themselves to Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo West if any symptoms emerge.

Well, finally, RSOE EDIS acknowledged this as an Epidemic Hazard. A little closer to knowing what is going on maybe.
