raas: Hey, I wasn't calling you a racist or anything, just to make sure you realize.

I'm saying that you've had "ARABS WANT TO KILL US" slammed into you so many times (on TV, in movies, etc) that you now unconsciously believe it. A lot of people do.

And you also gotta think: WHY.

Why would a terrorist organization attack at a HOCKEY GAME? What is so important about Game7 of the Finals that someone would sneak in a bomb and blow up the rink. To protest the fact that there are very few Arab hockey players?

Just because they're "terrorists" doesn't mean they're stupid.

Probably a good thing that you reported something, though. If you felt something "in your gut" about this guy, best to voice your concerns.

The only thing that concerns me is where does it end? Can someone accuse you of being a terrorist and suddenly you're "disappeared" for a time while you're interrogated in secret?

Why attack Game 7 of a hockey game? Becuase there were 23,000 people inside the stadium and munbers as high as 30,000 outside. One of the biggest event in this part of the country. Mass civilians in a public place.

What real options are there? This whole terrorism situation is a mess, its a 'catch 22' and we were all thrown into it head first. What were all the psychics doing on September 10th 2001? You cant go around interrogating every arabic looking person, it would be racist as well as impossible. But you cant leave yourself vulnerable to attack either so ignoring a suspicious situation could be a big mistake, but one man's suspicious is another man's normal. I guess we just go about our daily lives and hope we're not in the path of an attack. What a wonderful world.

Just to prove that people report people who are NOT Arab-looking, I will repeat the tale of my report to the FBI few day following 9/11.My husband and I were at an outsided coffee shop and overheard to very, very Anglo, very, very yuppie type guys talking. They were saying that they were "certainly glad that the money transfer with Mustafa, in Spain, had not gone through." Or, to quote them, "we'd be knee deep in all this WTC stuff."
Although we didn't have the presence of mind to take down their license plate number, the next day, we DID go to the local FBI office to report the conversation. The FBI said the info was "of interest" but they needed more to go on. I felt like an indiot, but still think I did the right thing.
I'm not someone who "turns people in"...it goes against everything I believe in, BUT, when there is a real question as to whether someone might be a threat, I will tell the appropiate authorities.

Why is it that when people complain to the powers that be about stuff like this they are a racist? What a load of crap.

I'm a xenophobic and a racist because I cant stand having to learn Spanish to drive to the local store.

BTW, as a side note just today a group of four coyotes were caught about a thousand feet from me holding 20 South American border jumpers in a home with no AC at gun point in the 100F heat with the heat index at about 118 we had today. This is what you get when you dont control the borders. Do you know what would have happened to those poor people if they would have stayed in that situation for another day or two, they would have died from the heat!

Guess what, it was either a cop, a terrorist, or a fag hanging out in the restroom looking for swinging pecker! You did the right thing reporting him.

All you that don't like what I say, Oh Well! Plonk me or put up with my PC hating guts.

This is f****** ridiculous.
Step back and honestly look at what has become of yourselves and what life in the USA is truly like.
Pathetic!

All the results of a twisted empirialistically motivated propaganda machine, under the clever guise of a 'democratically' elected government.

I used to think the US was the best place to live, with great opportunities and freedoms, but now, no bloody way!

It has sadly been overcome by two things:

1) A war mongering fascist government comprised of terrorists in their own right who have nothing but dollar signs in their eyes and bombs on their minds, all at the expense of joe trailer park who has no clue but to work all day to pay more taxes to fund more wars so the military-industrialists can become even richer.

2) A general public that is pathetically inept at seeing through the fog and lies and is rather quickly allowing their country to become the worlds pre-eminent example of an Orwellian police state.

Thumbs up all the way, don't you think?
Better act quickly before it's too late.

By the way, if you think that Arabs crashed planes into the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon then you all need to move on out of ATS and sign up for the Mary-Kate and Ashley discussion board.

Unf******believable

I would have asking him WTF he was doing there instead of going to tell the police. And im not a racist but if all of the 9/11 hijackers were Arabs and their leader is a Muslim and a Arab and 99.9% of their organization is Arab, then I have to be a suspicious of an Arab guy staid by a bathroom for 1 1/2 hours in a major sporting event full with people.

I agree as well. We are being told "who to look out for" and "what to think". I still would argue that had that man been of any other nationality, he would not have been noticed.

PS- No one has called anyone a racist. However, there is a thing called "racial profiling" and to those who contribute to this your only fueling the system.

For what reason? Al Qaeda didn't attack the WTC to kill civilians, it was done to cripple the US economy. WHY attack a sporting event with only 23,000 people when there's high security and there's WAY bigger events than that.

I mean think about it. EVEN if there WAS a plot to kill all those 23,000 people, wtf is some Arab guy standing around in the can gonna do? Is he casing out the bathroom to make sure there's no heros? He's crowd control for the 20 people in the can?

This whole thread is a little ludicrous. The culture of FEAR in the USA is reaching mythic proportions. It's like East Germany with the Stasi Secret Police.

Inform on your neighbors if they do anything suspicious? What's suspicious? Whatever you think is "not normal" or "out of the ordinary". Are you trying to make an entire nation of scared little cardboard cut-outs?

When do you start having to watch what you say in public, or has that already happened?

I would still have to argue that America is the best place to live. It is NOT the American peoples fault that a Admin. like the Bush one is in power. He didnt even get elected and hopefully hell be unemplyed next year. I am for Kerry and i must say that with Kerry in office i belive respect will be brought back to the USA and we can finally be respected as Americans.

they want us to be scared and they want us to be distracted from the real perpetrators--our focus on arabs is a desired effect-we should be asking ourselves why?and who is to gain from this distraction?our govt officials and the military encroachment should be the focus of our scrutiny

I find it kinda funny that ppl always seem to put their faith in the next new president. Everything is the present pres's fault and the next one will make it all OK. Buy the next new greatest deoderant and your life will become what you want...LOL Why do ppl fall for that over and over again.
Take a good look at history and you'll see nothing really changes. The pres is a figurehead and the agenda continues no matter who it is. I don't think a change of pres will do much to help us now...
We don't get to vote for who really runs the show.
