the "fear" factor needs to be introduced early and often. this makes it much easier when it is used in adulthood. when you focus the mind on survival, you push back most other critical-thinking done to further improve a civilized and just society.

I have a feeling that the powers that be are conditioning us to tolerate the presence of guns and para-military cops.If we see and hear all this police state shenanigans all the time we will become acclimatized to it. Recently on my work street tactical officers with NO insignias were practicing rope skills on the side of the street working in a ravine, guns and all. If I didn't know better you'd have thought they were chasing a criminal. It made all the employee's nervous cause we thought there was an armed gunman running around behind our business . I got a little closer and found they weren't being serious, just practice. This was Canada but if this had been the States I would have had a gun at the ready. REAL DANGEROUS! No pylons, no police tape, no warning to the local businesses , just irresponsible. We should call the local LE nest time. Best of Luck

You think it's great until it's YOUR kid in the middle of all that. What if your child was trampled in the panic? Or had nightmares? Or was so scared they didn't want to go back to school? Can you imagine what those kids are going to feel like when they go back? They're going to be looking over their shoulders every minute, scared they're going to pull it again. This was an stupid move by an unthinking school administration and police. Heads should roll.

You have got to be kidding me. In an age where school violence is becoming common place, these F-tards decide to hold a drill involving simulated gunshots in a school without telling the children or there parents? I'd say every single student has a mental anguish case just waiting for a lawyer.

This is probably the biggest factor in keeping schools "gun free."

They don't want you taking out a cop in disguise while he's terrorizing your children.

This was not a "drill" this was a psy-op.

A drill in a school sense needs to involve the prior knowledge of those in charge of classes that it will take place. in order so they can guide their classes through execution of an evacuation procedure. Not only that, but people attending need to be informed of the process to execute on a given signal, stimuli and or command. as in a fire drill, or military drill. The whole point being is to practice (drill) the procedure.

Without either of the above this cannot be called a drill. It was designed to, and succeeded it seems in generating fear and panic, which if any person had been injured in the resulting stampede the school is wide open to litigation. Although failing that, I am sure that it will not stop the tidal wave of litigation for mental injury and anguish.

Completely irresponsible, poorly thought out, and only designed for one thing obviously. Instillation of fear.

Clearly you don't work at a school. The only person with prior knowledge of a drill is the principal, perhaps the assistant(s) as well. You are told the proper procedures during orientation each year. In this case the "signal, stimuli and or command" was the gunshot.

This is probably my biggest pet peeve about ATS...when people spout off about things they clearly know absolutely nothing about.

Well "PTSD" is just more psycho-babble.

PTSD is not just psycho babble. It is a real disorder. Your brain physically changes in response to strong stimuli.

Why don't you tell PTSD isn't real to the war vets who experience nightmares and flashbacks.
Or why don't you tell the little girl who watched her mother raped and murdered before her eyes that PTSD isn't real.
Tell me my PTSD from a car accident wasn't real. My nightmares, anxiety, pain and depression is not real?
I lost my job over something that is not real? GIVE ME A BREAK.
I'd like to see you get into extraordinary circumstance and see how you would respond and how well you would handle it.

I know this wasnt in response to me, but I'm going to tag this one anyway.

Yeah, the Principle and assistants are in the know about school drills, but in this case, the parents of every child in that school should have been notified about this particular drill. Had the drill been an incliment weather drill or some other natural disaster drill, then by all means, get on the PA when the kids are clueless and drill them till they cant sit under their desk any more, but for a drill that simulated a human violently hunting down and attacking students with a firearm, no prior notification is unexcusable at best, surely criminal at worst.

Don't get me wrong, I think this drill was stupid, I was just pointing out how completely wrong his assertions are.

they did an un announced invader drill at my alternative highschool NOVA in california we were all the screw ups and trouble makers and when they all of a sudden said there was armed people attacking the district office(building next to ours) every student in my class went to the art box started passing out exacto knives and one student drew a switch blade.....needless to say the drill was stopped b4 some one got hurt or the teachers got more embarssed with the situation surpisiingly none of us got in any trouble for it either but we also had a licquor cabinet in the back of class at that time so thats that

Sounds like how it would have gone down at the school I graduated from BOCES badkid school, I always had my balisong on me, I doubt I was the only one who carried a blade. I know for a fact there was one kid who did the jailhouse thing with a razor in his mouth, I never even had the balls to try that one.

A "drill" is something you do repetitively so that the group learns how to do react properly in a predesigned fashion.

Like a fire drill, or earthquake drill.

What this school did is not a "drill". It was a live exercise.
