LoL, I'm not a SF nut either, and barely know star wars, but I know it's much deeper than that.
The Republic Falls because every one thousand years darkness returns, "The Cyth".
There were no Stormtroopers, at all....Then Chancellor Palpatine (whatever his title was), raised an army, that is the Stormtroopers. They exist only
for evil.
If there was any statement behind that, it would be that a standing army is always damaging to Republics.
The Stormtroopers also do not think they are good, by any means, they don't think at all.
The Cyth lord...Palpatine, has one power above all else, and that is manipulation, through the same powers that Ben Kenobie used to force the STs to
stop their questions, the Emperor thus controls ALL STs.
They are mindless clones.
Also the people of the Empire don't think. In fact, the people in general, are completely useless to the plot.
Not once do any of them ever comment on the government, Republic or Empire. They are simply extras, that don't even get involved in the movies. The
Books maybe a different story.
But usually extras will be there to be extra blood and guts, casualties and the like. Not in star wars, they are simply there for the fact that if
they weren't, you'd be wondering "Where are all the people?"
Really, a lot of people make starwars out to mean a LOT more than what it is, unlike LotR, which has the same problem, star wars is a lot more
thin.
It has a great story, and fiction, and a good meaning, with how there was use of parallelism and fate and how the Emperor's weakness was "over
confidence", but it really isn't much of an Analogy of anything, more of a creation by Lucas, from the imagination, with a few things in mind.
