Palestinian unity: Isolated Israel

The US-backed revolution in Egypt has only further isolated Israel, Washington's main ally in the region, while the end of the four-year rift between Palestine’s two political parties has created an air of fear and uncertainty for Tel-Aviv.

In the post-Mubarak Egypt, which has boosted the reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas, a recent poll suggests the majority of Egyptians are now willing to terminate the peace treaty with the Jewish state.
Political activist Mustafa Odi is happier than he has been in a long time. He used to be a member of Fatah but switched to Hamas because he feels betrayed by Fatah’s dealings with Israel.
And while Hamas might be considered a terrorist organization by Israel and the US, Odi says he shares the movement’s goals that are now being furthered by a new friend – Cairo.

People may have varrying opinions on the Fatah-Gaza reconciliation. Personally I believe the majority of Palestinians would support Fatah over Hamas in the next election and this reconcilliation could be used to achieve a just peace between Israel and Palestine, however it is clear that those who enjoyed the status quo are clearly worried.

Don't forget this is the same source that said the Wisconsin labor protests were Americans marching against Wall Street.

If Fatah is elected, it’ll be another SSDD moment. Remember last time that happened, when Hamas overthrew the Palestinian Authority in Gaza, some Fatah officials were taken to the top of tall buildings, shot in the knees and dropped off. All because they didn’t like the results of the election.

The people of the Middle East have been fighting each other since recorded history. Sometimes they unify against a common enemy, but it never lasts long. They always return to internecine warfare.
