Scattered reports by social media and an informal network of activists suggested that the number of women who drove was in the dozens, with few incidents of confrontations with either the traffic or the morals police reported. In 90's I use to take in long-term students, one of which was a Saudi man. He was delightful and nothing like you would expect. He came from a wealthy family and was married with 2 little daughters, Father agreed and over they came.

He wanted his wife to drive, got her a car the day she passed her test. I suspect he's not unique because although he was wealthy and the family had servants etc, not all Saudi families are the same and a wife who drives is an asset.

I also remember the Saudi King being reported as saying that he would like the Saudi Women to play more of a role in the country after the trouble with Sadam's rockets landing in Riyadh.

Repealing a ban on women drivers in Saudi Arabia would result in ‘no more virgins’, the country’s religious council has warned.

A ‘scientific’ report claims relaxing the ban would also see more Saudis - both men and women - turn to homosexuality and pornography.

The startling conclusions were drawn by Muslim scholars at the Majlis al-Ifta’ al-A’ala, Saudi Arabia’s highest religious council, working in conjunction with Kamal Subhi, a former professor at the King Fahd University.
