Hi Spartan, excellent thread and very good point.
I don't post in your threads very often but I nearly always read them.
I think this thread is a very much needed wake up call to all the people getting over excited about a 6.0 quake here and a 7.0 quake there, then wow, tsunami! Holy sheet!
People very often forget the victims, myself included... Thank you for the thoughtful, sobering post.
Really puts things in perspective.

Just minutes ago...
A full disaster declaration for the state of North Dakota was declared by President Barack Obama this evening.
This declaration is effective as of Feb. 14 of this year and triggers allowable FEMA funds to be used for counties that suffered spring flooding this year.

Yeah I agree FEMA doesn't do everything right but at least there is something instead of nothing, sometimes I think people forget that, what if there was nothing to help after a disaster at all? Then I would believe more conspiracies of FEMA.

I have talked almost every week with 5 - 10 different people since 2005, these people are just working, the money side of it is not completely righteous cause the way they sale the units, but hey, they are just doing their jobs.

I think we need to learn how to help ourselves and each other more. Create a better social community and stronger outreach throughout every town, thats how you get things done quicker IMO.

Actually my friend the south really does get a bad rap in the mainstream world. Down here in my small country community black, white, and Hispanic people work together and help each all the time, its a beautiful site to see. But you don't see those stories on the news.

Alot of folks do stuff like that down here cause we know how hard it is when depending on a agency, you just don''t know what your gonna get.

I have 3 units, and I built me a small house after Katrina with my bare hands at age 25 to make sure it was strong enough to withstand ANY category hurricane, so I kept 2 units and decided on the other to either put the unit in a underground concrete storage area for a survival project or just sell, then the f5 hit and I have friends up there, its not the best unit, but it will work and it is clean. No brainer.

People do even more than I do down here. A friends mom of mine could not afford to pay her power bill and before the news even hit me I found out that someone that overheard her anonymously poped a $ 3,000 check in her mail box. It's things like that.

Your right on ATS. Alot of people come on talk negative and give sentiments abouts the disaster and complain but thats all. Things are much worse than what they show on the news. The don't go into the places that are too f'd up and too dangerous that would not allow them to gather a good shot.

The title "Doom book" (originally "dom-boc" or "dom-boke") comes from dōm (pronounced "dome") which is the Anglo-Saxon word meaning "judgment" or "law" — for instance, see Alfred's admonishment: Doom very evenly! Do not doom one doom to the rich; another to the poor! Nor doom one doom to your friend; another to your foe! The following reflects Mosaic Law: "You shall do no injustice in judgment! You shall not be partial to the poor; nor defer to the great! But you are to judge your neighbour fairly!" (Leviticus 19:15).
