Hypothetical: Lets say you worked for me and I paid you a wage of $10 an hour. Someone comes in and offers to do the same job that you do for $8. Why should I not fire you, hire him, and plow that $2 an hour savings back into the business? That extra $4000 could definitely come in handy for marketing, bonuses, etc etc.

Unions once had a time and a place, and both of those have come and gone. Initially, they were a good thing, implementing protections for workers from hazardous working conditions etc etc. These days. for the most part (not all), they are nothing more than bastions of losers, degenerates, and those who cannot survive on their own.

Take a section of the FMLA for example. Why should a business owner be forced to do without an employee because they made a personal choice to have a baby? Why should a business owner be forced to hold a position open while having to hire another to fill that void, all because an employee made a personal choice?

Because, and you might not believe me, but people have lives outside of work. Yes, its a funny notion isnt it? Aside from working, travelling to and from, sleeping, eating and general hygene requirments, people do other things, like dating, socialising, getting pregnant and ensuring there is always someone on this earth to be exploited by fatcats!

And if someone walked in and offered to work for $8 instead of 10? He should be beheaded for undermining the point of having a livable wage. And if the employer sacked me and hired him? The employer should have his business shut down for undermining the point of paying people a livable wage. Yup, thats what i think.

Thanks for proving my point that you have zero understanding of the business world or economics for that matter.

As I said before....

Hope you enjoy poverty.

So basically a company can steal labor from someone because they get away with it. If minimum wage laws didn't exist then the theft would be even greater. The excuse for doing this is that they are worthless people that are not really any better than apes. Your attitude sucks. You are really no different from this guy who wants to steal from companies. It must suck to work for you.

I have worked for people with attitudes just like yours. I'm nearly certain one former employer of mine would have no problem being a plantation owner with slaves. Slave owners also like to denigrate their slaves to make them seem less human. Also didn't slave owners argue that they wouldn't make it if they had to pay their slaves?

Wrong. As you stated in your previous post, supply and demand will determine the wages. If nobody accepts that less than minimum wage offering, the business will have no choice but to increase the wage in order to attract applicants.

I am not denigrating anyone. Hell I worked for minimum wage when I was in high school (you know, in an ENTRY LEVEL job). From there you move on to bigger and better things.

Yeah that seems to be working for Chinese factory workers or people in Jamaica making Nike shoes. Did you know those shoes made there cost the company $2.50 and they sold them here for $120.00 and all the while the "employees" made 11 cents an hour. THAT is a great business model is it not? Wow! If only those people could have held out for 15 cents instead of caving. Oh well not Nike's fault they were willing to work for 11 cents.

Why are you blaming Nike and not the chinese manufacturer?

Nike didn't set their wages, their supplier did.

Nike used Jamaica. I blame the company and its stock holders for not caring about how its products are made and who is exploited while making them. How could they be so careless? Oh yeah profit baby profit. To hell with people!

Viper you are hopelessly lost. You have more in common with the OP than you think.

a) I will use you as an example because you are a prime example of why people do NOT deserve to be paid more. You lack the skills, education, and common sense to make yourself worth more money.

Look, using me as an example to other members is offensive, i will report you for it, this is your warning.
And i dont lack any of those things, i just dont adhere to your silly standards. You lack moral fibre, hell, you lack a concious to fellow human beings. As tupac once rapped "I aint never done a crime i didnt have to do" When you have people starving in the streets, expect to get robbed my man, but remember how you indirectly brought it upoon yourself via your own ignorance.

b) You have an internet connection. As I told another poster, that means you have a wealth of information available at your fingertips. Hell you can teach yourself computer programming (a steady and well paid job). Start a blog and monetize the hell out of it. Hell, start your own porn site. There are countless opportunities available.

As I asked that other poster (who has yet to respond):

Ahh #, is it THAT easy?? #, why didnt i do it before?? Gosh there must be a reason...
1) I might not be good at being a programmer or a pornstar.
2) Learning skills takes M.O.N.E.Y - I currently dont have the asking price to get myself onto a course to improve myself.

What are you doing at this very moment to improve your workplace marketability? What steps are you taking to make yourself more valuable?

Whining about wanting more money for an entry level job doesn't count.

I'm improving my mind by reading threads and checking out what kind of mentality mad employers like yourself have. This way i'll always be two steps ahead when it comes to stealing from you

That's the point that I don't believe he gets. By all reasoning he would view that as smart economics, and it is, from a economical point of view. But the problem with thinking that way is that it eventually leads to the reason that those circumstances are perfectly reasonable and acceptable. How can a person argue with another that speaks almost two different languages? Human needs and relationship (real world relations) vs economic gain(analysis and calculation). I can understand the latter being the view point of a computer, but not one of a living human being.

Ah so even the guy who owns 100 shares of Nike should be concerned about how it's suppliers treats its workers?

Do you cry every time a starving child in Africa dies too?

Report away. The truth is painful sometimes.Unless you change your marketability, you will always be a low wage earner. You are a loser now, but that can change if you work at it.

I don't care about you.. I dont expect you to care about me.

Learning new skills doesn't take money. It takes motivation, which you seem to lack.

Regarding your answer to my question: You aren't doing anything to improve yourself but whining about how you want more money.

Steal from me, you end up in prison or in a ditch. Pretty simple concept.

Of course he should if he has any humanity left in him. This is EXACTLY the type of mentality that make the raping of this world, the corruption of this government, and the wars for profiteering possible. You should take a long look into a mirror.

Yes stock holders are owners of the company and DIRECTLY benefit from the exploitation of human labor.

Yeah I think its really sad when people die because they lack the basic necessities in life don't you? Or are they worthless because they don't have a skill set you can use?

I actually don't care about people dying if I dont know them.

I have more important things to worry about than African starvation.

Nah, basicly, you want people to jump through hoops like little lapdogs, feeding them the odd compliment for there hardwork. Learning new skills hahaha, seriously? should i consider the advanced burger flipping course at mcdonals? Think i might get really high up in the company if i could make a mean big mac in a few minuets! Gosh, they might not only pay me a few pennys more but i might even get another star on my badge! Ohh! i'm giddy now!!

Steal from you, end up in prison? Yup, Sounds about right. You steal peoples labour and pay them in peanuts (Probably literally in your case) They steal from you? Harrrdddd timmmeee in prison. Isnt that exactly why the prison system was set up? To many theives wasnt it?

I dont steal anything from anyone. People are paid what they are worth.

Perhaps the fact you are low paid means you are worth very little.

Maybe thats just too painful for you to accept.
