That's pretty darn sweet!
Apparently with a good enough head wind and a light enough aircraft you can do it. Never thought about it before, cool to actually see it.
Given you have a high enough headwind you could get a 747 to appear to hover, this is why aircraft speed is measured as "indicated airspeed (over the
wing)" and "groundspeed".
None of the less its pretty cool to see aircrafts land in such conditions, the cub is a very robust piece of kit.
I am with kennyb72. I think there must be an enormous head wind there. Cool avatar kennyb72. I knew gyrocopters could do this kind of stuff, but
this is the first time I have seen a fixed wing plane do it. The pilot is a student only 17 years old. He is working towards his A&P certs. His dad
helped him modify the plane. He is competing against pilots who have more flight time than he has been alive.
Haha, aye, that thing is landing in what is probably in the range of 25-30ish mph headwinds... A Super Cub can take off at around 35 or so mph -
he pratically landed in a parking space, pretty amazing.
Did you know a Super Cub with Tundra tires can actually touch down on water?
