The heavy-weight GOP contenders aren't showing up. Why? Intimidated by Obama, the incumbent? Or just not ready to take the plunge for other reasons?

Because the investors most of these guys are riding on are going South for the year. It might be simply just another product of the economy.

Five Reasons Why Tonight's GOP Debate Matters

Even former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty -- the one potential top-tier candidate who will be at tonight's debate -- is sounding a little miffed. In an opinion piece in today's Daily Caller, he called out the no-shows (listen up, Mitt Romney).

"Some candidates are skipping tonight's debate in South Carolina because they believe it's 'too soon' to begin the presidential campaign against Barack Obama. I only hope that it's not too late," he wrote.

In addition to Pawlenty, tonight's debate will include former Godfather's Pizza Chief Executive Herman Cain, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.

I think it's kind of soon for a debate, too, but if they want to have one, it should be interesting. I certainly would love to hear what Ron Paul has to say. Enjoy him in the debates now, because he probably won't be allowed in the later, more visible ones...

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

The GOP don't wanna debate ANYTHING right now. Come on, answering questions on their leadership for the wars.

Think about it, George had 8 years to kill Osama and defeat terrorism...Obama took less than 4. Not to say he deserves all the credit, but he certainly will receive all of the political credit.

Silly GOP, none of them have a chance in hell at winning in 2012...I'm not even an Obama supporter just for the record, but they don't have anybody who can run a successfull campaign against him.
