pinto beans
canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
ground cumin
yellow onion
stew meat(cubed steak)optional
garlic
salt and pepper to taste
enough water to be just over the beans if dry beans
im sure you can figure out the proper proportions in ingredients its all according to your taste, but go easy on the chipotle
put it all in a big cast iron pot and cover top with lid and tinfoil, dig a hole in the ground, get some wood coals goin, place the pot on the coals, have a seperate pile of coals to put on top as well, then you put a piece of sheet meal over the top leaving room around it for the coals to breath, every so often refresh it with fresh coals, let bake for 8 hours,be careful when pulling out, enjoyedit on 4-5-2011 by CUJOCREEP because: (no reason given)

yeah but he didnt want sweet beans so i kept the molasses out, you could also add bacon instead of steak, or a mix of different beans, its all up to the persons taste but the spices are on point as well as the cooking process, thats where u get the smokey flavor as well as from the chipotle

Well heres the thing.......I actually made Ranch Beans today and I followed this recipe
2 cups dried pinto beans
Water to cover
1 cup onions, chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
¼ cup oil
1 14-½ oz. cans chopped tomatoes
2 tsp. dry mustard
2 T. Worcestershire
2 tsp. chili powder
¼ tsp. pepper
1 tsp. oregano
¼ tsp. ground ginger
1 T. molasses
Dash of hot pepper sauce
1 tsp. salt
I ran into problems when the beans didn't thicken up like they were supposed to and I added tomato paste and brown sugar etc etc more molasses LOL tried just about anything to thicken them up but they just didn't taste right to me........they tasted GOOD but they didn't taste the way I wanted them to taste
