Documents obtained by the Electronic Frontier Foundation in a Freedom of Information Act request show the FBI has used, since at least 2001, special spyware to track suspects’ actions online.
The documents highlight software called Computer and Internet Protocol Address Verifier (CIPAV) which allows federal authorities to collect details about a user every time they use the Internet. The FBI collected IP addresses, MAC addresses, open communication ports, lists of programs running, URLs visited, and much more.

This article from Russia Today highlights how the F.B.I has been infringing on the privacy of individuals/citizens within America.
People may have different opinions in regards to this(unlawful, unconstitutional and tyranical or necassary and needed) however I myself oppose this activity. We all know that great powers like this can be used in a corrupt way. What garuntee do the people have that this isn't being used against lawful citizens who may oppose their government?

I would guess this wouldn't come as to much of a surprise to most people. I wonder how they choose their "suspects."

This is why I never visit government run websites. Seems the perfect way to infect millions of users, the FBI, NSA, CIA, etc websites all put some sort of tracking cookie or spyware on your computer.

This is important info, but I don't think people here are surprised.

This gov tracking of online users is guaranteed to be used badly. Things are coming to a head in this country. Who defines an "Enemy of the State"?

I suspected as much, I go on sites just to ^&^^% with them and type the FO's in my search engine. lol Guess they're getting the messages.You have to assume. Heck they admit if you say or text or type a keyword. It throws a flag. To me that's a real live conspiracy. I was initially okay with the patriot act until you start hearing of it being used on issues with no possible connection to terrorism.

Upon reflection if the terrorism is chnaging the American way of life and our basic civil rights then it seems to me we already lost.

That is fear mongering! Even if they do it, it's probably just for analyzing, not really spying. THink about it millions of people they would need human eyes and ears to decipher all the information being sent in. That would take a force of 100's of thousands to sort out emails and porn links. Last time i checked fbi was not that tech savvy. I could see them doing it to child porn and stuff you shoulnt download like a file named creditcard#'s.rar or how.to.build.a.bawm.txt that makes sense I would want to look at who the hell wants to build a bomb and what kind of credit stealing jerk wants the credit card file and for what.

Gov is great in this aspect for once it sounds like a good way to catch people up to no good.

This can be looked at as invasion of privacy
and damage to property for innocent people being suspected.

This has been thought of for some time by internet users.
I'm sure a lot of people know that the internet is monitored(through whatever means useful to them-virus's) and recorded by not only the FBI but the world.
Everybody is monitoring everything.
This is rampant at all levels in the world.
It's called SPYING whatever the excuse is.

We have a long way to go before thought crime convictions, we do not even convict real criminals. So far it's just pat downs, and seeing what we are up to. Heck my drug dealer doesn't have issues. When they bust his door that is when you should be worried. We have so many freedoms and whine about non issues when there is real issues at hand.

So no what's next is not thought crime convictions that wouldn't even make sense. All it says is that they use it as a trap probably for pedophiles and criminals. That's called investigation. Sometimes you need to put a worm on the hook to catch a fish. And alot of fish get let go before you catch a good one.
