A walking meditation is a very easy one to do. And I'm by no stretch of the imagination experienced in meditation. It's basically a mindfullness meditation. Being aware of what you're doing, at any given moment in time. But on a "more aware" sort of level. You pay proper attention to every step you take, your stance, your breathing, how your feet feel as they touch the floor, how your legs feel as they lift and carry you forward ect. That sort of thing. And like everything else, you get better with practice. You can meditate on anything. Things that you are doing, things that you want to do, or nothing at all. It really is an open book. And as for best techniques. Everyone is different, and we will respond differently to different meditations. I, for example, like the kundalini meditations, and mindfullness stuff. Other meditations i find difficult to stay focussed, but I can do these ones ok. Everyone is different, and no 1 single technique is right for everyone. Try as many as you can, and stick with the ones you find easy. (to start with)

Good luck.

The ego is an illusion, so it does not become lost, but rather you realize it is just an illusion. The ego is created by the mind. The attributes are added onto it, so for example if you think you are a banker or police man or cook, you believe that that is what you are. But if you change professions, you stop being a cook, and instead become a police man. Did you lose the 'cook' in you and gain the 'police man'? No, you simply changed. In the same way your perception of who you are changes, from small human being to absolute reality.

This is truely amazing, I cannot wait to reach such a point. I will definatly be staying on this journey.

Thank you for your wise words.

I understand, its like how I meditated earlier. To stay focused I started to be aware of how I was sitting on the bed, how the cloth felt on my skin, the way my legs were crossed etc..etc.

I'm glad to hear you are interested in it. Keep practicing, and you'll "get there" one day, but in reality you won't need to get anywhere all you'll need to do is realize you are already there.

I just tried meditating again this time I had slightly better results. I again used Binaural beats (it seems to help me relax) but this time I also used the breathing exercise suggest by another poster. Results were;

- This time no rise in heart rate (likely because I was no longer nervous).
- Felt very relaxed.
- Felt light headed.
- Had in inward feeling (if that makes sense).
- Also had a sort of strange tingly rush going up and down my arms and legs.

ok the track you where listening to was in low alpha (about 8hz) – a very useful state but one you have probably been in a few times before (assuming you have ever zoned out watching a film for example)

The exploring stuff doesn’t happen till around theta (6 Hz and lower)
Here’s a list of frequencies where allegedly stuff happens
www.lunarsight.com...

you could try is some of the software that is used to generate these frequencies – there are free versions (I think there’s one on the link I posted)
I use stuff from these
www.transparentcorp.com...

one other thing for what its worth
I try and do some chi gung before I have a go at the interesting stuff – it could be that getting charged up (with chi?) turns on or is the flues for the more interesting processes

A note about the Ego. Any story you tell about yourself. I am X or Y. Like someone said earlier, a policeman, a cook, an American, a republican. That is your Ego. Because anything you can say about yourself. You are already so much more than that.

The Ego is necessary to fuction in this world. It's not your enemy. Its a function of individualization. The Ego can cause harm when you believe the stories you tell yourself. Just imagine that we are just playing "roles". I play a technologist at work, a boyfriend at home, a father on the weekends. They are just that. Roles that we play.

The question is, how do I know what i believe is true? Truth is relative. Your truth might not be the same as my truth. Use your heart. How does the belief feel? Hint.. If a belief causes you suffering, its probably a lie. Make your own truth. And always respect other people's beliefs. Even if you dont agree.

You don't need blindfolds are special beats to meditate. That's silly.

All you need to do is bring your full awareness to any situation. Be aware of feelings, sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and yes your thoughts too. As long as you bring awareness to any moment it is a form of meditating. It can even be driving a car or playing a sport.

And yes, this will make you happy because the only thing that causes unhappiness is believing that the stories you tell yourself are true. They're not. They're just interpretations and perceptions.

Great post. You took the words right out of my mind. Couldn't resonate more.

I also agree that you don't need blindfolds and beats, but i find that you also don't not need them.

Paying attention is the key, nothing more is necessary. The rest just happens.

As for regularity, as the masters say 'a little time, a lot of times'.

When I started mindful meditation I meditated for no more than 5 minutes each time, at least 3 to 4 times a day. It doesn't have to become an obligation though, so you should do as best suits you.

With practice, meditation comes naturally, and you can indeed be aware hundreds of times during your regular day-to-day activities.

I found great insight from Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche's book the 'Joy of living'. Maybe you will find it too.

Thank you for your words.

You have to try and "remember" how you trained your mind into the meditative state, and basically, attempt to prolong the experience while your are walking around, doing simple chores, and eventually it will become a permanant fixture in your awareness, and eventually your consciousness or "field of energy" will expand. The goal is to create a stable resonance within your being, it takes time as the brain, nervous system and chemical systems reorganise themselves.
