Bahrain urged to halt execution of protesters

www.amnesty.org.au

Authorities in Bahrain must not allow the execution of four protesters sentenced to death by a military court over the killing of two police officers in anti-government demonstrations last month, Amnesty International said today.

“The Bahraini authorities have a responsibility to bring to justice those who commit violent crimes. But when doing so, they must uphold the right to fair trial and they must not use the death penalty under any circumstances,” said Malcolm Smart, Amnesty International’s Director for the Middle East and North Africa.

“In this case, the accused were tried

Here is somthing that isn not being covered in the Mainstream Media. Some of you may be aware that Saudi Arabia and the UAE both sent troops to quell the protests in Bahrain. However it seems as if the Media has stopped reporting news from this regional ally of the United States and have continued to only report from Libya and Syria. I believe it is important that we here on ATS do not forget that these protests and this violent crackdown on protestors isn't isolated to Syria. I think it is important that we do not forget the violent crackdown commited by allies of the U.S.A.

I've explained it once before. There are 3 main types of people in the Middle East. The Jews, Shi'ites, and Sunnis. The Shi'ites and Sunnis have been battling it out since the days of the prophet Muhammad as to who would succeed him. In modern times, Iran is the predominate Shi'ite country. Iraq was mostly Sunni, but after the toppling of Saddam, Iraqs government was taken over by Shi'ites. Azerbaijan is also predominate Shi'a. The rest of the Middle East is Majority Sunni, except for Bahrain.

Bahrain is located between Saudi Arabia and Iran in the Persian Gulf. The Bahrain population is predominately Shi'a, but the King was appointed by Saudi Arabia. The people of Bahrain do not want to be ruled by a Sunni king so they took up arms. Since Bahrain is mostly Shi'a, the king employes soldiers from Sunni countries like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, ect. So as protests grew, the king was faced with two options. Resign or call in a favor from his Sunni allies and send reinforcements.

For 1 1/2 months, Bahrain has been under occupation of foreign troops. Protesters are being shot on sight, and prisoners are being executed. There's no exact death toll because there's a media blackout in Bahrain. Internet has been censored.

So to recap, we've went to war with Libya to help fight the evil dictator and 'spread democracy', and we're about to go to war with Syria for the same reasons. Want to know what we said about poor Bahrain?

United States – President Barack Obama said today he is “deeply concerned” by the violence in Bahrain

That's all he's said that I know of regarding Bahrain. This was on February 18th.

The reason the United States is not saying anything about Bahrain is because like I've said, it's a predominate Shi'ite population. And that means if they succeed and overthrow the Sunni king and have a Shi'a run government, we could say bye bye to our naval base. They'll just be another satellite of Iran, and Obama will not allow it.

Our naval base in Bahrain is vital when it comes to being able to deal with any Iranian threat.

Read Halford Mackinders heartland theory (c1904) (geographical pivot of history) and how even John Maynard Keynes (Keynesian economics) felt the conflict over control of the heartland would lead to the next big war (the Nazis adopted the heartland theory for their global strategy for conquest and the USA adopted the theory for the cold war)

I believe the heartland theory is akin to the Geostrategy being played out today with those nations on "our side" getting a free pass while those who sit with the opposition get a good kicking.

Hence why Bahrain will not get anything more than a slightly slapped wrist even if they follow through with these executions.

IMHO it is not about oil but more about control.

While at the same time I beleive over the last 50 years this strategy (more importantly the last 15) has been sapping the economic strength of the West as the Russian and Chinese ramp up their interests in the Heartland.

The conclusion I come to is that I side with Halford Mackinder and John Maynard Keynes in believing this strategy can not end in anything other than a major conflict.

Precisely what I've been saying all along. It's about who controls what at the end of the day. Iran is trying to spread it's influence, while we are trying to stop it. They've already got Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, and possibly Egypt (we'll have to see how they turn out) in their sphere. Bahrain is next on the list.

I love this documentary, I've watched it a few times.
