Last year's single baby eaglet, named Phoenix, was almost fledged when he died suddenly and unexpectedly. Upon examination it was discovered that he
died of a respiratory infection. Last year there was also a second egg which never hatched. Let's hope this year's babies do better.
Last summer there were a HUGE number of eagles nesting along the Kootenai. They are starting to show back up now, and I hope there are just as many.
Last year I had the first in a lifetime privilege of watching a FLOCK of eagles!
