Tornadoes and storms in the south-eastern United States have killed at least 250 people, officials say.

In Alabama, the worst-hit state, more than 162 have died in recent days - including 36 killed by a tornado that devastated the city of Tuscaloosa.

Deaths and widespread devastation are also reported in Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia and Virginia.

A state of emergency has been declared in seven states, and federal aid money is being sent to Alabama.

The US National Weather Service has reports of nearly 300 tornadoes since the storm began on Friday, more than 150 of them on Wednesday alone.

An ongoing tornado outbreak began on April 25, 2011 and is affecting the Southern and Eastern United States with catastrophic destruction especially across Alabama. The sequence produced destructive tornadoes in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia and affected several other areas thorughout the southern and eastern United States.

Widespread and destructive tornadoes occurred on each day of the outbreak so far, with tornadoes forecast as possible, though not likely as large or numerous, on April 28th.[2] As of at 3 p.m. EDT on April 28, 2011, 263 people had been reported to have been killed as a result of the outbreak. This makes the event the deadliest tornado outbreak since the 1974 Super Outbreak (which killed between 315-330 people), and the deadliest tornado outbreak to occur in the United States in the era of the modern NEXRAD doppler radar network, which was fully implemented in 1997 (surpassing the death toll of the 2008 Super Tuesday tornado outbreak, which killed 57 people).

Nuclear power plant affected by tornado:
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported that the Tennessee Valley Authority had lost the ability to transmit power from its Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. The loss of ability to transmit power from the plant had forced it to perform a cold shutdown while being run with diesel generators. Chief Operating Officer Bill McCollum of TVA stated that it could be weeks before the plant is up and running again.

What does this have to do with 2012? The OP simply reports some news about devastation.

That's bunk. It may be the worst you can recall off of the top of your head, but that is meaningless.

It's bad, but not the worst. Earlier today it was described as the worst in 40 years.

I agree historically this mother nature is repeating itself, BUT, has it historically all happened around the same time? That's what play on my mind.

Just going down the rabbit hole alittle deeper....... A connection between the severe weather, HAARP, and the up coming FEMA NLE. What if HAARP created the crazy weather and devistation in order to put a strain on local and regional emergency crews before their NLE in May, So that when they crack open the New Madrid Fault next month, the emergency crews will be too over loaded in that area to help. Just a thought.
