Fascism - Danger - Backstabbing - Too much power - Civil liberties in trouble

Before I state my case let's be sure we all know what Fascism means.
By definition it is # Fascism

1. A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
2. A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.

# Oppressive, dictatorial control.

I used to think that this was a strong used by the extreme left groups and they were the crazy ones, thats what you get when you listen to sympathetic right wingers and fox news. But I did alittle research and have learned many things I want to share, this is going to be bullet point so we have example after example of how much our lives and liberties are in danger...

~ Both parties have pushed forth a bill that has, in effect, discounted the Bill of Rights

~They have used fear tactics in order to force compliance from an already fearful public to prevent questions in passing the bill.

~They have done their best to cover up mistakes made in investigating 9/11
~as well as leading to the war in Iraq

~Any citizen who dares to question the motives of going to this war is freely targeted as unpatriotic or worse, a traitor

~if you want to protest in front of the President you are told to stay 3 or more miles away where you cannot be seen or heard

~What was the point in creating such fear about potential terrorism based on vague details about methods, times and place with the alert system? What real practical value were these alerts other than to create a fearful public who needs to be dependent on the government that may not really have their best interests at heart? And then to have such alerts, but not being able to fund all the towns to carry out the extra security measures was totally irresponsible. source

The only resource the common voter has to represent his needs and wants is through our elected members we send into the Congress and Senate. Thus far, most of them have turned their backs on the ones who have put them in office in order to support the agendas of large corporations or extremist groups.

The checks and balance system of our government has been severly compromised! The Executive Office has far too much power and our representatives have rolled over and handed them their power on a silver platter.

It is time for the people to take our power back. We need to contact our representatives and make sure we know exactly what they are doing for us and their record of representation.

If they are not representing us, they are not doing their job and need to be fired. Let them know we are serious. If they do not represent us, they did not earn our vote and do not deserve their salary. It is time for them to look for a new job!

If the average person has no voice in government, our government has failed us. When it comes to this point, it needs to be fixed. If we cannot fix it within the laws of our country, then I fear it is time for another revolution. People are growing tired and may not be patient much longer!

You left out one important characteristic of fascism. Mussolini defined fascism as the merging of corporate and state power. That is what happened in fascist Italy and Nazi Germany. That is what is happening in the United States under the corrupt Bush-Cheney regime. Bush and Cheney are paid corporate whores. The Republican Party is bought and paid for by large corporations. Bush and Cheney run the country the way large corporations want it to be run. All the policies of the current administration favor corporate interests. The net effect of the Iraq War is to transfer billions of dollars from the federal treasury to Halliburton and large defense contractors.

You people laugh at me when I tell you Bush = Hitler. You should study the history of Nazi Germany. I am not saying that Bush is like the Hitler of 1944. I am saying Bush is like the Hitler of 1933. The parallels between Germany in 1933 and the United States in 2004 are frightening.

1-. Exuberant nationalism

Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic images, slogans and symbols - National flags are seen everywhere in public display. Territorial aggression is explained to be mere destiny -- an unbidden greatness thrust upon the nation by history.

It is this burden of unique responsibility that now raises the fascist state above all previous constraint, no longer bound by international obligations, treaties or law.

2. 2. Enemies Identified

This national cause is identified as unity against enemies - The people are rallied around a unifying patriotism directed against some common threat: communists, liberals, a racial, ethnic or religious minority, intellectuals, homosexuals, terrorists, etc.

The state's message is sometimes couched in an easily recognized religious theme. Amazingly, this language is used even when the full context of the teaching shows the meaning to be diametrically opposed. Any dissent is "siding with the enemy", and therefor treasonous.

3. 3. Rights Disappear

Disdain for human and political rights - Fascist regimes foster an artificial climate of fear by intentionally amplifying stress and anxiety. Citizens naturally feel a strong need for security and are easily persuaded to ignore abuses in the name of safety. The few still willing to question are met with bullying and smear campaigns of intimidation.

Legislative bodies, if still in existence at all, are cowed into rubber-stamp submission with occasional ceremonial opposition. The judiciary tends to become activist in support of state views. The public often looks away, or even enthusiastically approves as rights are stripped away.

The concept of the individual inevitably yields ground, exchanged for the promised safety of the all-powerful state.

Wow, True Lies, that list of twelve warning signs is the best characterization of fascism I have seen. All twelve signs clearly describe the early history of Nazi Germany. All twelve signs also clearly describe the direction in which the Bush-Cheney regime has led the United States since September 11, 2001.

People accuse me of political hate speech when I use the label fascist to describe Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, and their supporters. It is not political hate speech. It is truth in reporting.

Deny Ignorance is a double edged sword if people want to be fair in this game they need to explore the other side, and the other side is definitely alot more viable then the bs we've been spoofed, I never used to believe it either until i decided I wanted to be fair game...

I agree with all of them except 1, 2, and 5. Those are not bad things, as long as they're not taken to radical extremes. (Then again, isn't anything bad if it's taken to radical extremes?)

1 -- What's wrong with patriotism? I love my country, warts and all, and always seek to make my country a better place. I love seeing the U.S. and flags of whichever state I'm in wherever I go. (C'mon, flags are colorful and pleasing to the eye, if nothing else... )

2. -- As long as the enemy is correctly identified as such, what's wrong with that? Germany and Japan wanted to destroy us during World War II; the Soviet Union wanted to destroy us during the Cold War; the al Queada Muslim extremists want to destroy us now. Not knowing who your enemy is is tantamount to suicide.

5 -- I agree that the military shouldn't be glorified, but what's wrong with respecting it? I'm 100% civilian, but have great respect for those who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces.

That is a good website though, so I bookmarked it. Now I want to find a website that does the opposite extreme -- "The 12 Warning Signs of Socialism"... Both extremes are scary to me!

A facist nation defines itself by defining its enemies.

I worry about the environment, and corporate corruption, but the police state thing worries me the most. If it becomes a reality there is no hope of curing the other two.

I think that Police states are invariably bad for the economy. An economy runs on dreams and hope. The reason people go out and work extra hard, get a second job, etc is because they have a plan or dream about the future, for their kids or for themselves. The more restricted a society is the less options available for individuals to take advantage of. No option = No dream = no motivation.

Also creative, unique and imaginative ideas are stiffled under these types of regimes. What science is done is aimed only toward military advances.

When the economy goes south the state always finds some outside entity to focus on, thereby distracting the population from their economic woes. War is without exception an expensive and destructive proposition.

This administration has managed to alienate, much of the world and enraged most of the middle east. With some resentment from within and many enemies without, it is almost inevitable that there will be incidents of violence. That will be used as a further excuse to suspend civil liberties and possibly start another foreign war. It becomes a vicious cycle.

If Bush is re-elected it is time to get some camping gear together.

funny, it's really just the democrats or liberals that think we're under fascist rule. look i really didn't even want to get into this but i'm sick and tired of actually hearing people believe the big bad gov't (and just the bush/republican gov't, everyone else somehow was special, espcially clinton) is out to control us. donguillermo, you'll have to excuse me but when your own avatar is an image of hillary i can't help but feel the bias. as for the whole arguement that your not allowed to protest bush, well what a load. i basically just watched an entire 4 days of anti-bush protest (the DNC). oh no, protestors are being kept away from the president, oh wow i feel so encroached upon. if kerry is elected you think things will be different? it's a precaution, so what. i'm curious what you'll think if kerry wins. will the all horrible bush regime have been averted? NO YOU FOOL, it only means he lost the election. what if bush wins the election? will he find a way to ensure power for the rest of his life? NO, it just means it'll be 4 more years of his shot at the presidency. so many of you are jumping to conslusions, connecting dots that just don't connect, and fabricating these mass paranoid delusions because you can't understand while someone would vote for bush. donguillermo, sorry man, but i have a serious problem with you. you're obviously a democrat. a core belief of democrats are absolute eqaulity for everyone. no racism. no sexism. no prejudice against gays. all perfectly understandable, and perfectly correct goals. but how the hell is it you're able to justify generalizing an entire political party? as far as i'm concerned your statements about republicans are the same as saying all blacks are criminals, or all whites are raicists, or all muslims are terrorists. there are levels of belief within the republicans party, just as there are in the demcratic party.

This isn't actually true. While Clinton was in office, especially the first couple of years, people were going nuts about the government taking over their lives, and citizens even started their own militias. This was mostly due to the infamous FBI and ATF raids where the feds used way too much force, but it spilled over into rumors about UN occupation of America and tons of paranoia. The feds backed off and things calmed down.

The sad thing is sometimes people are motivated because they want to see 'order' [restored]. It is sort of like setting a flower in plastic. It is preserved for ever, but is now dead. The only kind of control which governments should maintain are those which circumscribe the outer boundaries. We are not, and should not try to be, automatons, everyone in identical cars, homes, jobs, value systems, religions. Funny thing is some democrats tend to try and put us all in identical cubby holes too, like there is some pre-packaged mass produced life we should all want. The government should be a light circumspect frame, in which people are free to persue their individual visions of what brings them satisfaction and happiness. Individuals should realize they have to take responsibility for their own lives. Use their intelligence, abilities and creativity to deal with and flourish in the world around them.

Government should never be a parent, religion, or authority. It should be an equal to each and everyone of us. Many republicans and democrats assume they have a superior vision of the world. It is very condesending. Government should not impose, it should open up and reveal new opportunities. Then let the people do what they will, invariably they will come up with completely unanticipated ideas.

Government is your partner, with whom you have a constant dialogue.

Has anybody ever reflected on the label chosen for the most common threat level 'elevated'? It's interesting to me that they chose a word that is often mistaken as a verb.

Although I know that 'elevated' is an adjective, when I see the usual warning "Threat Level: Elevated", my first thought is often 'Oh no, What's happened now'.

It may mean absolutely nothing, but I still find it interesting.
