KABUL, Afghanistan – Eight American troops and a U.S. contractor died Wednesday after an Afghan military pilot opened fire during a meeting at Kabul airport — the deadliest episode to date of an Afghan turning against his coalition partners, officials said.
The Afghan officer, who was a veteran military pilot, fired on the Americans after an argument, the Afghan Defense Ministry said.
All nine killed were American, according to a senior U.S. defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the information has not yet been made public.

Clearly the Afghan military has been infiltrated. Not a very good sign of the situation in Afghanistan.
The strange bit is that the war in Afghanistan started off being about the war on terror. But now, its been ages since Bin Laden stopped being a priority. So what exactly is the mission in Afghanistan about.

I dont buy the notion that the US is there to prevent future terrorist attacks.

We only went to war in Afghanistan so the CIA could get in there and cover up all their tracks. Ten years of pointless slaughter and we don't even have a goal in sight. This war was nothing more than a cover-up of a big lie.

Never saw it that way before. Good post.
Future oil crisis... Need to control oil so as to be able to control the rate of development of upcoming economic rivals... Making sense now.

If those poor victims wouldn't have believed the bull# story and signed up for duty, they would still be alive.
The western nations have no right whatsoever to have troops over there, and the justifications used are simply false.

If one gets killed, well, too bad (by which in no way I want to be disrespectful towards the feelings of loss the significant others these young people leave behind have to suffer.)

Over here in Europe this news just made the headlines of the mainstream media. I don't understand this. What makes the lives of these 9 trained killers worth more than the 25.000 children that will have died on the same day, due to the fact that western nations are still using the rest of the world to their benefits?
