Sugestion on Posting that might save some head aches, and other stuff

I have noticed many lately that are quick to post a reply

They might get past the first post , they might even read the
first page, then are quick to reply with some thing that was posted on page two

I can see if the thread had 1000 pages and you want to reply to something
but try to finish reading the thread , most likely someone has posted it before
Heck if you have to copy what you want to say in notepad quotes and stuff
keep it till you get to the end of the thread , find out if what you said was said before
if not reply ... If so add something NEW to what was said before.

reading a thread lately has been ( if no mod catches it )
OP: blah
A: agree with blah
B: Blah plus agree
C: Blah is false
A: Oh wow yea blah is false
E: Blah
F: already said blah is false
G: blah and agree
A: Blah is false
nine pages later
Z1: Blah and agree
Y9: Already said on page 1 blah is false
Z1: I didn't read that

Or if a mod catches it
A: Blah
B: Agree
C: Blah
D: Blah is false
A: off topic
B: off topic
A: blah false
nine pages later
E: Blah agree
F: off topic
G: off topic
H: blah agree
I : off topic
A: off topic
J: hey A i like you avatar

So I would like to see a new function on Replying "Respond"

also at the bottom "(Minimal posts that contribute nothing to the thread are subject to immediate removal.) " twice the size
Bring back the txting rule under the top

Pop up window " Did you read the thread?"
yes keep going No cancels reply

Pop up window " Are you sure you read the thread?"
yes keep going No cancels reply

in case someone posted what you said while making your post - you may type now

type in response
click reply

Pop up do you agree that you have read the thread all the way up to last page
and are not going to repeat what was said ? If you agree then
click Yes - No cancels

Pop up - if you agreed to not repeating and reading thread all way through
if you are caught not reading the thread and or repeating you agreed to be instantly banned
Yes makes the post or no cancels

I know it would take time to post after that
but if went through that to post then it must be something that had to be said.
Quality not quantity

many would like to see an AntiFlag/Anti Star system ( that would be abused )

B: oh yea ( since B has already flagged and stared, they now have an option
to remove their own flag and star, no one else can remove it unless they did it)

If there were that many popups that I had to click OK or NO to, I would never reply to any post.

I agree with you in principle and wish mods would clean up more of the "clutter". But instituting a policy that is beneficial to everyone would be a large task.

I think a timer from the time you open a page until you hit respond/reply would be great. I don't even participate in some actual interesting threads because 3 out of the 4 pages are almost completely full of people replying to the title of the thread and not the content of the post.

That would be hard to implement also i think.

As of now I just kind of /facepalm and move on to the next thread.

Generally by the time the thread is that long, I do not even participate in the conversation because I am unwilling to commit the time to read such a long thread unless it is something I am passionate about. Even saying that, I still disagree with you OP. Perhaps the weight of many posters saying how much they disagree with your hypothetical thread's op would do something to influence the position held by said op. Sometimes I go to sleep and a thread that popped at while I slept has 20+ pages. Should I have to commit to reading the whole short story before replying to the op? I think not.

It would be nice if people actually tried to read a thread before commenting but many don't have the time, inclination or reading comprehension skills required when comprehending something that's already been posted would actually run contrary to a personal bias or agenda.

So they would in those cases prefer to make you repeat yourself all the same, even if they have read a post that would debunk what they are about to post if what they are about to post is part of a political or religious agenda or bias.

I don't think doubling the font size on the "You are a experienced contributor to ATS. Please be an example for our newer members and make every post matter." to many members who do their level best to skirt the Terms of Service on Off Topic Posting and Manners and Decorum anway.

As far as the 'mega threads' that get a lot of complimentary posts "Great thread star and flag" or "Awesome Job" original poster, I think many of these can be attributed back to Thread Invitations where some of the more popular and prodigious thread starters/writers invite their many friends to the thread, who really don't have much of a comment but want to let the Original Poster that they responded to the invitation to the thread and starred and flagged it.

I think the only way there might be around that if threads had a 'guest book' page attached that members who wanted the OP to know that they visited and starred and flagged it could just sign as a means to eliminate the 'complimentary post'.

I know myself and a few other select posters here on the site spend some major time writing opening pieces and doing research for some of the 'all original content' pieces we author and it's a fairly natural inclination on part of some members to recognize the extra effort some members put into their thread with complimentary posts.

If you invite 400 members to your thread, that can add up to a lot of complimentary posts to read through.

Maybe an ATS rule that if you send invites it must contain a clause that states something about,
"If you visit my new thread please add to the discussion or just star/flag if appropriate"
