Sad news about Elisabeth Sladen who played Sarah Jane Smith in the Doctor Who series.

The actress passed away today after a fight against Cancer. She played the part of Sarah Jane originally with Jon Pertwee (3rd Doctor) and with Tom Baker (4th Doctor). Her role was reprised when the series was revived by the BBC.

She also had her own spin off series the Sarah Jane Adventures.

I always liked her character Sarah Jane and I thought she played the part well. RIP Elisabeth.

Starred and flagged OP.

I think like a lot of guys who watched Tom Baker's doctor as a kid, I fell in love with Sarah Jane Smith, aka Ms. Sladen. She was a grand actress, and such a perfect companion for the 4th doctor. And very lovely.

I was so glad when she returned to Who with its revival in 2005/2006.

I quote one of Sarah Jane Smith's immortal lines:

Sarah Jane Smith: "No. The universe has to move forward. Pain and loss, they define us as much as happiness or love. Whether it's a world, or a relationship... Everything has its time. And everything ends."

Except our love for you Ma'am.

I loved the fact that they repised her role, I thought it was an excellent idea and this was backed up with her spin off series. Okay it was aimed at a more younger audience, but I still enjoyed it.

I was a bit too young to appreciate her with Jon Pertwee, but have seen some of the re-runs. She was a very fine looking woman and great actress as you said.

Brilliant quote by the way.

Yeah, I was sad to hear this yesterday. Doctor Who has been one of my favourite shows. (I've seen every episode except the ones that were lost, since I'm not old enough to have seen those, just the fan reconstructions) I didn't even know Sladen was sick... She'd been doing Sarah Jane Adventures for the last couple years and seemed fine to me. I can't help wondering what the future of the show will be now. (SJA, not Doctor Who)

Apparentley she wanted to keep her cancer out of public knowledge. A friend told me that they had filmed half the new series of SJA, so there may be six or so episodes that may get an airing. I hope so as a tribute to her fine acting skills and service to the Doctor Who franchise.
