Jim Cantore of the Weather Channel just stated that there have been 150 tornadoes in the past three days across the US, which is the expected total for the entire month of April.

This wiki site is also keeping tabs on the tornado outbreak event.

A few years back I was through a tornado and watched my neighbor's roof float 500 feet over my head.

pretty intense stuff,

While this is absolutely true, there are also quite a few meteorologists that are just as curious as to what is causing these conditions to be so perfectly suitable.

See... it's called a balance. Storms form when imbalances happen in the atmosphere. They're used by nature to restore the balance.

If storms have increased and the intensity is of a "biblical" proportion, something like we are seeing the past weeks, then there is a "biblical" imbalance in the system to cause it to happen.

The question is... what's the imbalance?

Im outside of Raleigh, we had a bad one touch down here earlier. One in Burlington, Sanford, Smithfield as well. One just touched down in Rocky Mount and was on the ground 30 mins ago. Many more touched down as well.

Has tornado alley shifted?
I have lived in central Texas all my life. I remember from a young age being afraid during tornado season. My mom went thru the horrible tornado that swept thru Waco Texas in 1953. Every spring I remember the black clouds moving in with tornado watches and warnings.
What is strange is in the last several years I have noticed that our tornado seasons are very "mild". It almost seems as if "tornado alley" has moved.
I may be wrong...just something I have thought about the last few springs.

You have a great way of cutting through the fog and getting to the main point Jomina.

No doubt someone will come on this thread HAARPing about how the weather is being modified artificially.

Aren't you glad I didn't mention HAARP?

I grew up in the Dallas area and spent most of my life within a few minutes of driving time from I-35... I agree that the storms have toned down greatly in the last 15 years or so.... The ability of modern radar and satellite systems that are capable of identify an active tornado that would have never been reported until recent years makes things seem much worse than they actually are... I live about 80 miles East of I-35 and really miss the excitement of the huge dark clouds with the weird green tint and gray funnels dropping, disappearing dropping hailstones on one side of the road while the other side was bathed in sunlight.... Tornadoes are pretty common in Central Texas and to the west but in the past unless there was more than crop damage or a barn destroyed no one heard about them.

it can't just be an influx of heat or lack of cold, associated with any of the fronts??
why is it always modified weather before natural occurances?
this is as natural as sunlight. the climate is shifting, so fittingly so does the weather.

I think it has indeed shifted. I'm in my mid forties and have noticed a marked increase in tornados and tornado warnings here on the east coast since I was a kid. I just spent a couple hours down in the basement with my family today as a tornado warning was issued for our area. That's something I never had to do as a kid here in MD. Now, every summer, my own kid and I have to pack up essentials and head for the basement during tornado season as we do now get frequent alerts on my cell phone. One twister did touch down not far from where I currently live. My father in law had a killer one pass a few yards away from him as he sought shelter at his lodge building. I say a killer one because it killed a couple of college students.

My parents experienced a very odd highly localized storm that ravaged only a portion of parkland right behind their backyard. It was like God took his fist and slammed it straight down in a bunch of trees. I don't know what kind of storm would do that but it was really odd, to say the least. Lol, no it wasn't HAARP. This was years before HAARP.
