WASHINGTON -- Japan increased its holdings of U.S. government debt for an eighth straight month in January.

But the second-largest holder of U.S. Treasury bonds will likely scale back its purchases of foreign holdings, and even sell off some, in coming months to divert money toward rebuilding a nation devastated by a powerful earthquake and an ensuing nuclear crisis....

www.huffingtonpost.com...

Japan is the second largest holder of u.s. foreign debt, behind chinas $1.15 trillion, at $885 billion.
some people here have suggested that the u.s. or the nwo was behind this earthquake using technology like haarp.

looking at these numbers are staggering. the u.s. owes china 1 trillion dollars + 150 billion dollars. with japans debt it's a cool 2 trillion dollars + change. that means you. you are going to have to work and pay the taxes to give it to the chinese and the japanese.

if it's true and technology exists, this makes sense. (if you're an evil illuminati bent on world conquest and wealth.) with one earthquake, the u.s. has managed to eliminate it's debt to these countries by half.
since japan is going to need all the cash it can grab to rebuild, it's going to start to sell off its foreign debt holdings.

is china next?

Um . . . this does nothing to eliminate that debt. If anything, it ups the possibility of them calling in the debt rather than continuing to sit on the treasury bills.

Come to think of it, the potential freeze on buying up out junk debt, will make us more dependent on China seeing as how we're not about to stop borrowing money any time soon. After all, here are brown people all over the place that our government wants to blow up. Bombs ain't cheap.

And the way to make Japan buy U.S. debt is to cause an earthquake so the Japanese divert their money away from US treasuries and towards the rebuilding of Japan?

If that is what the US did, then I am rebelling against this Nation for attacking one of our suppliers due to debt issues, for declaring war on another country, and for unconstitutional acts of power.

If china's next, they are going to war with one of the superpowers, which isn't right in so many ways.

Yeah right. This is the truth and the authorities in Japan don't know whereas we here on ATS do. Utter nonsense.

random,
I suggest you stop reading HuffPoo for your theories.
HuffPoo is partially funded by Soros. And you are wrong IMO.

The real reason Japan was attacked was not debt but because
of money. It is the root of all evil.

Soros and many other PTB including Rothschilds have invested
in the nuclear energy directives around the globe. America has
104 operational nuke plants in the lower 48. Some of those
nuke plants are aging and have flawed designs. Soros' recent
heavy investments into Duke Energy and the merger of Duke
with Progress Energy had the makings of the biggest nuclear
power conglomerate in the US. Soros intentions of fleecing
America of it's operating capital by forcing America to re-construct
it's nuke facilities means that America will spend billions of
dollars into research and development into nuclear energy.
Soros and Rothschilds will make millions off the development
and implementation of these new nuke facilities by getting
contracts from the US Gov to do the work. Since the financial
crash of 2008, budget funds of the US Gov have been tight
and usually earmarked so a newly renovated nuke program
was not in the budget. So Soros and Rothschilds had to force
their hand into re-allocating funds to deal with the aged, outdated
nuke facilities. Japan's nuke incident gave them that incentive.
This is also the reason why Gabby Giffords was shot in AZ.
Gabby was pressing legislation in the congress to focus on
Solar Energy and even had scientific studies done to prove
that Solar was more economical, more safe and more efficient
than nuclear power. Her bill she introduced would have
diverted funds away from nuclear research into solar research.
This is in direct conflict with Soros and Rothschilds nuke agenda.
Soros had to get extreme with Gabby after Gabby presented her
scientific data to NC Governor Beverly Perdue. Soros could
not allow Gabby's legislation to interfere with his nuke fleecing
of America. So Gabby was taken out of the picture.
So Gabby Giffords and the Japan fiasco are related.
2 days after Gabby was shot, Duke Energy and Progress Energy
merged into one energy conglomerate. And within
2 days of that, Ashley Turton who worked as a lobbyist
for Progress Energy was found dead in her garage.
News reports claim suicide, however the data I read
claims otherwise.

And now you know ...... the rest of the story

best wishes

boon

And to think Canada paid China $35 million in foreign aid last year and is expected to pay almost $50 million this year.

Nice perspective, I was thinking money and energy as well. There are some discussions going on with how to stabilise the international economy so with the US pushing its weight around it can take a more might over right approach to the discussion table. Also hear some rumours that Japan was going to release some over unity devices into the market which would upset the oil and nuclear boys. I am not sure on the validity, but if you are looking for motive it is a couple more ideas to throw on the pile.

*Sigh*

Japan wasn't attacked by anybody. They were the unfortunate victims of a natural disaster.

Yep, and guess where the millions upon millions will GO, You guessed it: "International bankers and the military/industrial complex". Disaster 'capitalism' ? Create the problem?, offer the 'solution'?

-->Globalists Positioned to Exploit Japan's Tragedy

One such report by Brookings Institute's Robert Pozen titled, "Japan Can Rebuild on New Economic Foundations" includes calls for Japan to throw its borders open...

The Council on Foreign Relations' (CFR) Foreign Affairs magazine article "Tokyo's Turning Point" sees the disaster as an opportunity for Japan to abandon protectionism and embrace the "free-trade" travesty that is the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The TPP is yet another bid to further mire nations in the disastrous interdependency that is dragging economies from the US and across Europe into a speculative debt black-hole brought on by international bankers.

The article continues by suggesting future military reforms resulting from March 11 should include removing "anachronistic constraints" on JSDF rules of engagement, interoperability with U.S. forces, and participation in international defense industrial collaboration. It also suggests that faith in nuclear power having been shaken, Japan's dependency on foreign oil will increase...

Some corporate, foundation, and government supporters of CNAS include AT&T, BAE Systems (UK), Bechtel, BGR, Chertoff Group, Chevron, DynCorp, General Dynamics, General Electric Aviation, Google, Honeywell International, KBR, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Blackstone Group, Boeing, Rockefeller Foundation, Tides Foundation, US Air Force, US Army, USMC, US Department of Defense, and the US Navy.

and let's not forget that any country who tries
to undermine the US Dollar will be met with
hostilities. Maybe some folks here have forgotten
this little incident from 2009 where Japan's
Ministry of Finance were caught illegally
dumping US Treasury Bonds.

billtotten.blogspot.com...

Two Japanese men arrested by Italian Police while trying to smuggle $134 Billion in U.S. Treasury Bonds concealed in suitcases, out of Italy into Switzerland, are employees of the Finance Ministry of Japan.

Turner Radio Network has now confirmed the two men arrested by Italy were trying to secretly dump Bonds that were previously held by the nation of Japan. The men arrested have told Italian police they were ordered to move the Bonds by the government of Japan because the Japanese government has lost faith in the ability of the U.S. government to repay its debts.

Bloomberg Business News - reported the bonds were "fakes." But according to Italian authorities, that is a cover story developed by the U.S. government to avoid panic selling of U.S. Treasuries by other nations.

hmmmm. was not Saddam doing the same thing?
and Gadaffi ????
