quake.twiple.jp...

Is this an actual legit site, or what? I really don't know.

Nothing showing on USGS at all, so I don't know.

earthquake.usgs.gov...

Doesn't it say 7.2? Watching USGS.
Edit - I don't know if the site is legit or not, but I don't know about the time. I think it is around 1 pm on Wednesday there right now, so if that earthquake would have really hit at around 10 we would have heard about it.

another one, same size as two days ago :O they are really taking it bad.

I think the twipple site readings are measuring over a time and then an average is calculated out or something, but maybe the tremors resembled 8.2 for a brief moment?

I wonder if magnitude is the same in Japan as here, because on USGS they are showing some smaller quakes in the same area, like 5.2's and whatnot.

On the USGS there's a 5.4 off Honsu and if you hit the time of earthquake in other time zones and scroll down to Tokyo.. the times coincide.. but the intensity is different.

5.4 compared to the peak of 8.2 on the other site... too early for the results to equal ?

forgot to add the link to the individual event on USGS...

earthquake.usgs.gov...

^^^this is where you would hit the time zone deal mentioned above..

.

I always check the quaketwipple site. Actually, it automatically sends alarms to my phone seconds after an EQ has hit. I noticed the 7.2 magnitude and I also searched on USGS and other applications I have on my phone. But nowhere do they report something that strong.

Would be interesting to know why... Which source is true, at this point?

Well doing a Whois on the site returned no results, so it may not be trustworthy.

I am not familiar with the site but it definitely states a 7.2 with
todays date. Aftershocks from the big one or a new quake?
Not a good day in Japan.

It is 1:18 in Japan (Fukishima) right now. I wonder what time zone the site is reporting in?

That site looks foreign. Could it be marked as today but was really yesterday for them?

With all of these quakes it makes me wonder if in thousands of years will they speak of the lost "continent" of Japan?
I know it is not a continent to its self but hey, Atlantis prolly wasn't either.

I'm thinking that their magnitude system differs from ours.

Because the time does line up, but usgs says 5 pointer, not a bunch of 7's and 8's.

Time seems to jive together, but the depth and intensity differ...

I am not familiar with the site that has the 8.2 max but I have seen USGS fluctuate as they collect their data analyze etc...

However.. a 5.4 - 8.2 is quite a difference.. so I would just be patient for a bit til this settles out.

The original Fukushima quake reports have fluctuated so much I can't honestly say what the final intensity was.?

8.8? 8.9? 9.0? ... No clue...

Hopefully this one settles on the USGS side of things..

on a who is search you need to search the main domain twiple, the quake in the url is just an extension [sub-domain] of the parent [or host] twiple site.
