Looking back in history it seems like we are seeing the last days of Rome.

Last days of Rome and possibly the human race. Who knows only time will tell. Just be prepared.

nope just seems that way when your in the middle of a dying empire... as a race we are just scratching the surface of what we can be.

We, the British and the French, strived for years to get supersonic with Concorde, to go faster with a passanger plane than anyone else, New York in 3 hours, why not try????

Now that everything that can be done has been done we have slowed down as there arent enough good projects to go around all our scientists; hence why nearly every scientist, it seems, these days, are doing health and safety research or useless research such as why did the bubbleasauraus die 200 million years ago......

This is my problem with todays society, yes lets research into the past ect, but more importantly, lets venture into the future, now!

We're in such a downhill spiral, we'll never pull out.

So, at least here in the US, I'd say we definitely have peaked, and are well on our way to being tanked.

I feel we hit the peak a few years back and we are now on the down side. How fast we will fall is anyone guess. I think that when we do hit bottom we are going to hit hard.Only time will tell.

I think its going to be an interesting fun and exciting time as we turn back the clock to a simpler time.

smaller communities that work towards survival, not feeding the tax machine..i cant wait to see washington fall and big corporation die in an instant because no ones will be needing their products because there will be no money

This is a pretty retarded question if you look into where the Secret Space and Secret government concepts are. They are thousands of years ahead of us technology wise. Not sure if that's too big a concept for you to handle, if not use your imagination. As for Civilization. We no longer live in Civilization. We live in a monetary controlled Oligarch that seeks nothing but your destruction. Figure it out.....

It could have, but there's no telling what tomorrow might bring, so we can't know for sure. However, without some kind of fundamental restructuring, or the propagation of some wonderful technology, we will decline with the degradation of our biosphere and lack of survival foresight.

we havent peaked, theres technology that we have but for some reason we arent making it or somone doesnt want us to make it, plus we are in a situation where we cant do anything until they are solved. its not jus one thing stopping us, theres so much going on that if we try to let 1 person solve it we will get no where, imo we must ALL come together to further our civilization. thats whats stopping us, we for some reason cant come together as 1

I think a good indicator of where we are is how many problems we have created that we have no means to effectively deal with. When looking around the globe we see problems mounted on problems, and most of those we have no effective way to handle.

My perception is that we passed a point of no return a few decades ago, and are on the slow downhill slope.

I don't think it is anything to really worry over. All cultures rise and fall, and we in our slow time-frame of perception think our's is different to every other that came before us.

The current mind-set of Might is Right must play out to its natural conclusion... going out with a bang and not a whimper. There would be survivors of course and those will hopefully build anew, with Equality as the cornerstone of the future. Otherwise we are doomed to continue repeating the same ruthless and non-effective cycles over and over until we have strangled life off this world.

You bring up some good points, but the title of the thread does refer to 'our' civilization, which could easily vanish in 30 years. The secret government has little interest in helping this rotting society with all of their technology it would seem. If and when a small, post collapse group of humans exists, it won't be 'our' civilization anymore.

We havnt peaked i think. I thinkt he problem is, we are not being allowed to grow* were just adapting. meaning, were still using oil by majority for feul and heating. were not being allowed to have public programs and funds set that help us..the FED keeps giving that money to china, and Isreal, rather than investing it back into our system. were stuck* system is based on requriing you to havea job to have possessions and food. if we didnt need money, for starters, and the stuff jsut givn to us in acceoptable amounts..think of all the free trade, ideas that would have come and passed, technology that isnt supressed or overlooked. the green technology, for lets say, heaitng at home is thier..were not allowed to have it, otherwise itt owuld have been implemented to everyone already, like solar energy.
we could grow* but in a ssytem that requirest axes, funds, money, and spending it too have possessions, is whats keeping us down. i mean we could try to be more free, but would be quickly arrested for whatever the reason, aka tax evasion, a compnay like exxonmobile or government might not like yuor free energy idea, and burn the blueprints, the lab for that matter. so its also kinda like big business is holding us back too.

Despite the loss of those programs, civilization will only move forward. They're all merely symbolic and there's good reason why they're being scrapped in my opinion. The Concorde was neat, but other airliners are pretty fast too, and far cheaper. Going to the moon and the space shuttle is NASA's department, and they don't accomplish very much with all the money they get. They paved the way with lots of innovation, but the nature of government bureaucracy has caused them to plateau. Sadly, countries other than America will be accomplishing great things (unless corporations replace NASA), but the cycle of nations rising and falling will continue. On a global scale humans will certainly continue building knowledge. Only a catastrophe in the the next few years or decades will halt the accumulation of knowledge that has gotten us this far.
