I've noticed there a heap of screenwriting competitions and lots of courses and books on how to be an A Grade and quality writer. But what if you just want to write B grade movies? How do the screenwriters for all those crap Casper Van Dien and currently Val Kilmer movies get their mark? Are they just failed screenwriters that have had their scripts rejected by most agents? How do the companies of these movies seek out these screenwriters to write their B Grade scripts

you still want to read all those screenwriting books. They help immensely. They basically just dont have the funds that a grade A movie has, thats all.

All who you know. A buddy of mine just produced Kill the Irishman. True story of Danny Greene. It was a lousy script but a great story - did pretty well in the pre-screen and he thinks Ray Stevenson will be nominated for an Oscar. You got to have a great story and push it or a mediocre story and know someone in the business

But do the writers that write these screenplays for these awful bad B movies know that their script is bad?? Or are they just deluded and think its quality?

Probably a mix. I mean, I'm sure the writer of Sharktopus wasn't expecting to win an Oscar....but it was fun, marketable, etc. and that's what counted.

So its possible to make a career writing bad scripts? I should just start writing a script for Behind Enemy Lines 3 or Gremlins 6. I mean, it couldnt be any worse than what these writers write could it?

Ahh, but then there are licensing and rights issues to established properties...
