Tokyo (CNN) -- Japan's government called for evacuations Monday from several towns beyond the danger zone already declared around the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, warning that residents could receive high doses of radiation over the coming months.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said the municipalities are likely to see long-term radiation levels that exceed international safety standards, and he warned that the month-old crisis at Fukushima Daiichi is not yet over.

"Things are relatively more stable, and things are stabilizing," he said. "However, we need to be ready for the possibility that things may turn for the worse."

At least they are doing something although I would imagine these people should have been moved weeks ago.

I've been following the Fukushima disaster closely.

If there's another tsunami and those reactors go under water, We're talking global water & air radiation - scientists better get started on working on some sort of magic deradiation devices and QUICK! Deradiation device? lol.. That's a good one.

We already have global contamination. 50 years of weapons testing and nuclear accidents have loaded the atmosphere with cesium and urnaium. The EPA even admits on its website that every bite of food you eat and every glass of water you drink is contaminated with cesium and uranium from weapons fallout. The full scale of damage done to the planet is staggering to say the least.

Think of the increases in birth defects, cancers, and neurological disorders over the last 50 years and then consider nuclear energy and the particles and radiation it produces have only been around 60-70 years.

As the TPTB like to say there is "nothing to worry about".

Evacuation orders have so far covered about 85,000 people inside the 20-kilometer (12.4-mile) zone, while another 62,000 within 30 kilometers have been told to stay inside, Fukushima prefecture officials told CNN. Japan's government said it had no estimate of the number of people who would be covered by the new directives.

Japan nuclear disaster tops scale

Why wouldn't you just evacuate all the people within the 30km zone? Some but not all makes no sense. Telling people they should stay inside is surely a sign that people should not be there to begin with. These people will eventually be evacuated so its nothing short of criminal to make them stay there and wait for word from the government. A government that has proven it cannot be trusted in relaying the true dangers of the nuclear disaster.
