The boat is the target. You can see the laser make contact with the left outboard motor at 8 seconds on the video. Extremely accurate!

Thats a scary toy.

As expected, it only took seconds before the fire started, I dont think the U.S is really on our side either, I just hope they never use that thing on us or any human. OUCH

Is it just me or does anyone else think that was a total waste of an outboard motor. Why couldn't the pull a dummy ship to practice on. I now some guys that would kill to put those on a bass boat. It was pretty cool though but you would expect something much more Imperial Star Destroyer like for all the money they spend.

Laser was mounted on a Navy destroyer, ex-USS Paul Foster, and fired from a mile away.

Seeing such waste really chaps my butt.

Two 200hp outboard boat motors totally destroyed.

No wonder our Federal budget is out of control.

On topic: That is a bad beam to use against our enemy.

I saw a normal microwave over turned into a really powerful weapon once.

Is this beam used in the demonstration akin to a microwave?

Forgive my ignorance but I am curious.

Bramble you beat me to it about the motors. You must be a boat person as I am. I could not believe my eyes when I saw those motors fry.

Cool video, i hope the enemy will stand still..... and not chrome plate their engines.
I want better testing, yes it's a start but how do mirrored surfaces factor in?

Looks like a waste of time for that laser to be honest.

I was expecting the laser mentioned a few weeks ago that could penetrate 10meters/s, that would be good to see.
We have the lasers bolted onto aircrafts that shoot down missiles.

Setting fire to a plastic casing didn't look that impressive, I vote artillery shell next time.

I vote the good ole tin foil hat for protection, point it back at them!

We have much more powerful death rays. Interesting to note that instead of a cheap bouy they decided to destroy a very expensive engine on a very expensive boat. Like the military has money to burn.

Kinda disappointed. I was hoping for a bolt of light to come down on that boat and it bursting into flames.
