I'm no naval aviator, but that sure doesn't seem like the right way to abort a landing to me.
First, the tail-hook should have bee retracted so it could not catch anything (that was almost the cause of the disaster).
Second, the plane should have been kept much more level so it would have more airlift to get back into the air. It was only the immense power of the
TWO engines that saved a sure crash. And an ejection seat would have been worthless at that attitude/altitude.
