I've heard of raining cats and dogs, but this? This is ridiculous.

No one has suggested that they came from a nearby blast? Maybe dynamite underground, or on a hillside? Other than that, a small plane dropping worms is about all that can possibly be an explanation.

This happened in 2007 in Jenings, Louisiana. There was a spout as well sighted at the time that sucked them right out of the soil, so I'm going to assume this is the cause.
