Just to let everyone know, although I have been following threads here for years, this thread is the reason I finally decided to get my 20 replies in
so I could start my own.

I decided to join after what happened to me last night.
.
First let me give a little background. I have had OOB experiences my whole life. I always looked at it as nothing more than transferring my consciousness. My 10 year old daughter has experienced this since she was 5. It seems to be characterized, in the waking hours, by having an adrenaline rush and strong desire to hide from certain individuals. Not in the sense of being afraid, but as sort of a thrill seeking game that overwhelms me.

I began my lucid dream flying or levitating. As I was approaching a populated area I got the feeling I was being followed. I accelerated my pace and landed by what seemed to be a library or museum.
.
I had a metal box with a radioactive rating on it. The guard checked me out and asked me what the rating of the box was and I remember hoping that it was a 6 and not a 7. The guard thought it was strange that I didn't know the rating, but let me in when we both discovered it was a six.
.
I started cataloging artifacts and then I got the message to flee and hide because the person that was following me before was in the building. I assessed my body and realized that the body I was in was only about 5 feet tall and really thin. I stashed the box and ran down the stairs to a lower level looking for an exit or hiding place. I found one and decided to hide. As soon as I got settled I started to swoon and awoke in my bed in my own body.

What brought me back to the body was an adrenaline rush. Upon waking I was burning hot in my spine and soaked in sweat. My heart was beating over 600 beats a second, but it was more like a vibration or frequency instead of a solid beat!

Kinda scary, but comfortably numb at the same time. What WAS scary was the fact that my heart was vibrating at the same frequency as the cable box at the foot of my bed. (Which was off before I went to sleep.). I stayed awake about 45 minutes afterwards to document and kinda sort things out.
After documenting, I instantly remembered that I had done a lot of missions like this one throughout my life and was kinda angry that I was not able to do it at will.

I instantly hoped that I had not harmed anyone while doing this in the past and had the feeling that my conscious was somehow transferred to that other body.

Can anybody else throw me a bone or something? I mean WTF?

Should I worry about what my daughter has in store for her future?

If your heart was beating that fast, you would have died instantly. There's no way that you survived 600 beats per second. Some people have heart
attacks when their hearts reach 200+ beats per minute. It must have been something else.

Wow my experience was much different. I slowed my heart beat down then lapsed into a projection the fear of not being able to get back into my body, it awoke my real body and that was it. I have never been able to do it again. Didn't see a silver string i just looked at my self kind of like looking into a mirror. I did float over my body but had no control. The feeling was odd to say the lest. ever since then i have had the ability. The ability of inner sight but i have no idea how to control it or how to use it. It has changed me but i have gone through hell because of it. The path has lead me down roads i feared but no longer fear it has given me clarity but i lack the wisdom to use it correctly. It feels like i downloaded half of something. And sometimes i fear that because i have chosen to listen to it that it has affected my path in life in a way. Nothing good came of it, my life went into a downward spiral but for some reason i feel stronger because it pushed me to what i feared. I suggest you do play around with astral projection i have a feeling it alters your path of pushes you into an alternate reality slighty different then your own.

It was just a descriptive guesstimate not a literal number. My heart was more like vibrating or beating very shallow not actual normal sleeping beats. The BPM was more in the line of trying to describe the frequency. I was awake at that time not sleeping as I had a witness who verified the next day everything I said.

Sounds like you were suffering from an irregular heartbeat from your experience. I'm not doubting your astral projection experience at all. I just thought your 600 bpm estimate was literal.

Did you happen to get a look/mental glimpse of the individuals you were hiding from?
The reason I ask is because I have dreamt of hiding from certain individuals as well. It's wierd to describe but what I found is that they are sort of men in black type of guys - black suits, shoes, very stiff. They just sort of are in the background. Not outright threatening, but you instinctly know they are sort of lurking to gather info. or trip you up. They could be construed as shadows following you, but not "shadow people". Sound familiar?
I only seem to sense them when I am doing something important in my dream.

If you ever encounter them, it might be because you really were out of your body and they were spying on you in an attempt to collect information about your intentions. My girlfriend has actually tried astrally projecting into Area 51 and it doesn't work. They notice you immediately and threaten you if you don't leave. I think some sort of forcefield was installed recently that now prevents any astral projectors from entering Area 51, S4 and any other major base of secret operations.

Bingo you hit the nail on the head. Never really got a look, but through therapy (when I was a kid) I was able to find out that it was the grey face that struck terror in me.

When I saw "close encounters of the 3rd kind" accidentally as a kid, it literally paralyzed me seeing them peel out from the ramp with the thin arms. That's when my mom took me to the shrink.
I learned to control the fear and replaced it with anger, but that didn't go well. So now I am ok with it all no fear, but you are right the face could knock me out of the lucid state if I looked I suppose.

Yeah, that sounds likely. My most recent and vivid "dream" was my being in an underground/cave like setting, but I don't think it was area 51 or the like.

They know when you're around. It doesn't matter if you're projecting yourself. They have all kinds of equipment that detects just about anything. If the military has holographic maps now, then we can only wonder what else they have that is kept secret.

It seems like I am starting to remember more when I wake up now. I had another experience today (I am working nights now) similar to the original OP.

This time I remember starting with a group in a training class for an engineering project. There was a partner with me in a passive position, but every time I hesitated to do something out he took over and I followed. Everybody was in a human body this time. Except for some "very old" people who just sit around in strategic shadows and watch you very closely.

I am now realizing that these "missions" have a Dark city, matrix, inception feel to them. (All movies I am naming.) I seem to be an architect type and can change the scenery to suit my needs. And these people need me to do this for them because the others do not seem to be as advanced and or keep waking up and disconnecting.

The thing I really noticed was being led by my emotions. Hunger and lust in this particular scenario. Also I see full vivid color which implies it is not a dream, but lucid.

They had a nice buffet laid out with tempting deserts and there I went. I didn't eat anything because it didn't look like there was enough for everyone. So all of the sudden my partner shows up and says "I've been looking for you we gotta go."

We get to the seminar (which is an adventure in itself complete with him stealing a car and scratching the hell out of it) and everybody is in this giant swimming pool. But there's a problem; the engineer has to make an underwater extraction and can't get in the pool because the water is too cold. So he leaves.

I am sent to find him and bring him back at all costs. Before moving I immediately begin thinking. I notice that the seminar seems to be a huge estate so I think that the owner might have a plexi-glass viewer under the pool. Kind of like at sea world or any aquarium where you walk under water to observe.

As I look for a set of stairs I am stopped by a very attractive asian looking female. She leads me down the stairs and insinuates that she wants to have sex. Which seems like an odd time to be pointing this out, but in similar fashion to the buffet I am like OK. She wants to get away from the "old men" hiding in the shadows and motions to a room with artifacts and these huge raw uncut gems on display.

I am trying to find a way to secure the doors at her request. Both of them close but there were no locks. So I imagine a locking mechanism and there it is. One of them closes and locks, but not all the way and the old men sitting in the dark can see through the opening.

She pulls me over as if to kiss me then reaches for the uncut softball sized sapphire and says, "you know if I took this no one would even know. You could take one too and who could see us?".
.
At this point I become aware that I am completely off mission and realize that this chick is trying to get me to steal for her the very thing everyone in the water needed the engineer to get.

So upon realizing that I am instantly reconnected with the group upstairs. They mention that "the alien creature got away" and we need to bring it back and put it in this cage. I think the alien is the female I encountered. I reach out with my mind to slow her down and I can see it working. I start pulling her back towards the cage and almost have it. Then a thought pops into my mind "you are not telekinetic." All of the sudden I see the alien slipping farther away into the distance and then she is gone. I immediately woke up.

Now call me crazy, but also call me fairly certain that there were a lot of elements in this experience worth exploring:
