That's the thing-the countdown just goes down to zero and that's it. But putting a countdown timer resembling the timer on an explosive device with Arabic-looking writing over it with no context- I just can't figure what the point is....Is someone trying to send a message or someone just had too much time on their hands?

Lol well I decompiled the swf and there nothing inside it that says anything - and it doesnt do anything odd..

It's just a counter to 0, and then it flashes...

The arabic is an image so I doubt you'll translate it, unless you can speak it..

Oh, wow!!! I just found out what it was. It's a "joke" (disturbing) for when someone opens your laptop at a security check point, or to sit on a bus with your laptop open. It's supposed to scare the bejesus out of people. I clicked on the link at the bottom, then did a search on the blog for "countdown" and this is what came up (with a link to the same link in the OP):

thecleverist.com

Display this animation full-screen when they ask you to open your laptop during a security check on the subway. **Under no circumstances should ANYBODY use the previous animation when they ask you to open your laptop during a security check on the subway, or in any other manner during which the display of the animation could be interpreted as a hostile act. Please defer all legal action to Penn & Teller, who gave me the idea in their 1997 book, “How to Play in Traffic.”

Yeah, pretty sick joke. Can you imagine someone coming upon this link in a sensitive area? Should the thread title have a warning or something? I dunno...

Well unless you already have it set up to display this right as you are going through a "security checkpoint", I really don't think there needs to be a "warning" in the thread title.....

Nice work tracking down what it is though...

Personally, I would never attempt to pull off the ruse, but just imagining it makes me giggle.

Is that so wrong?

I know that. I meant anyone sitting in a public place. On a bus, train, subway? Even in just a coffee shop.

ETA: I guess it's not that big a deal, but i can't help but imagine the wrong person seeing this on someones computer an flipping out. It was just a suggestion, though. i don't care if you do or not.

It is meant to be used as a prank.Someone sent me the email a while ago.
The instructions that came with it:

You sit in your plane seat
You open the labtop and go to the page
You pretend that you pray
The person next to you takes a look at the countdown and freaks out.

I don't know if it's funny, but it can seriously freak out a lot of people.

Wow that's hillarious... in all honesty though it'd probably get you shot if someone saw it on the subway. but i bet it would be brilliant if you left it in a hotel lobby to quicky go pee or something ^_^
