Musician Martelly, 'Sweet Mickey,' Wins Haiti Run-off Election

Haitian musician Michel "Sweet Micky" Martelly won the Haitian run-off elections on Monday, according to preliminary data. He beat out former the former first lady.

Martelly will have his work cut out for him as Haiti is still reeling from last year's earthquake and widespread poverty is still rampant.

The threat of more cholera outbreaks also looms overhead. We shall see if Martelly will be the breath of fresh air the country needs or he might just descend into nepotism and corruption like the past dozen-or-so presidents.

He will have his work cut out for him. I do not have a lot of confidence in the guy, but hopefully he will do some good. It is better than a free for all among Aristide gangs, Duvalier government elites, and unhappy crowds. Haiti has more problems than I think anyone man can fix. Hopefully he can get the debris clean up rolling, and maybe start to help the hundreds of thousands still in refugee camps.
