Looks like the fallout has reached the US.

I would like to point out that the levels are below harmful levels, at least that's what the EPA says...

WASHINGTON — The Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration say that very low levels of radiation have turned up in a sample of milk from the West Coast state of Washington.

The FDA said such findings are to be expected in the coming days because of the nuclear crisis in Japan, and the levels are expected to drop relatively. (Iodine-131 has a very short half-life — only about eight days.)

Results from a March 25 milk sample taken from Spokane, Wash., show levels of radioactive Iodine-131 that are still 5,000 times below levels of concern set by the FDA, including levels set for infants and children.

So what are the first signs of radiation poisoning?

The fact that "msnbc" is the source reassures me something is fishy about this.
Lets hope they are telling the truth for once.
I don't want a foot to grow out of my neck.

Intestinal flu like symptoms would be the first sign, and then it
gets worse from there. Depending on how much radiation
is received would be whether or not a positive outcome would
occur. From taking care of cancer patients that received
radiation I have seen patients with vomiting, upset bowels
severe burns all over the body, fatigue, loss of appetite. I
have never seen radiation position except thru the medical
field but I would think the symptoms might be somewhat
the same.

It's being reported across the broad spectrum of MSM outlets. Sorry.

Your concerns have been noted.

( Apparently they've found the same traces in California as well )

Its not really surprising considering its also being picked up in Scotland and some parts of the UK.
We are kinda lucky though as we are several thousand miles further from the disaster than yourselves. I dont know anything about radiation but i would assume it would be diluted over such vast distances (absorbed by things on the way)
Time to stop buying food from the USA too now...damn we arent going to be able to eat anything soon as all of our food is grown elsewhere (to keep costs low and profits high)

The fact that this is on main stream news leads Me to believe the situation is
Far worse then being reported. Either the levels are higher then they are reporting
Or the contamination is over a wide spread area. More then they are reporting.

They hide and lie about so much that when they bring something to light I assume its worse.
No proof on this it is just how I feel.

OK so radioactive iodine is detected, which is one of MANY radioactive substances in the plumes of the Japan reactors. Ok, it has a half life of 8 days.

What is the half life of the other potential constituents that likely accompany such iodine?

What's the half life of aerosolized spent uranium & plutonium? I bet it's thousands of times longer than iodine and thousands of times more lethal. Where's THAT report?

So if you drink 5,000 pints of milk a day, then you may be subject to radiation levels which, if sustained over a period of time, could be of concern.

The "good" thing about Plutonium - other than you can make a nice dirty bomb from it - is the fact that it is many times heavier than Iodine and even lead, so the particles won't spread as easy in the upper atmosphere. The main culprit is going to be Cesium Isotopes. You still find them today in German mushrooms that you pick in the forest, from Chernobyl 1986. A hint of what's to come.

This is what I meant when I said fishy.
I guess I should have explained more.
As for the radiation. Eh, what can we do?

So as a Washington resident, any dietary recommendations? How can I sustain my daily calcium and vitamin d nutrients. Any other foods to watch out for?

I would suggest breast milk, it will be win/win situation.

Well I am glad I dont drink milk,.
This will be an excellent way for the PTB to start the
population decline,.,. and blame it on the Japanese reactors..
Guess I will have to give up cheese now,..
Wow, they poison the ocean with an oil spill
and now the Air will poison the animals we eat, and the vegetables..

I don't drink milk but I love cottage cheese and cheese, no more of that I suppose.
To tell the truth I see no way every food product can be checked for radiation before
making it to the store shelf - that is scary. I started stocking up on dry foods
several months ago so at least I know those items are alright but what about
fresh produce, fish and meat. I see my diet becoming rather bland due to the
concerns.
