Is Erythritol Safe?

With all the information we have on aspartame being unsafe, and other artificial sweeteners as well, I wonder if we have any info on erythritol. Is it safe? It's claimed to be a natural sweetener and it's a sugar alcohol. That's all I know.

Anyone else out there done any research?

So no one has any information on this? Odd. you'd think with all the research done on aspartame you'd find a wealth of knowledge about this as well.
