Feds approve deepwater drilling permit for new area in the Gulf

This marks the seventh deepwater drilling permit issued under the new regulatory system, put in place after last year's oil spill.

Anyone here ever heard of the other 6? No? Me neither.

And of course, they say all is gonna be safe this time.

"Today's permit approval represents a culmination of a broad and comprehensive review process involving an exploration plan, a site-specific environmental assessment, and the application for the drilling permit - all of which complied with our rigorous safety and environmental standards," BOEMRE Director Michael Bromwich said.

Yeah like we can believe you after all you've lied about in the gulf.

What a nice bunch of clients... Real good guy there. And he was investigating inside the bank, and he didn't think that his lawfirm helping those SOBs was any problem? Yeah that surely shows his ethics... what ethics again?

it is about time that we drill and use our own oil and not rely on OPEC. We do not get a say with OPEC and yet we continue to dump $$$ into the Saudis and other countries for oil. It is about time we drill and use the oil to create alternate energy long term solutions and quit allowing Americans to get gouged at the pump.

Instead of spending however millions of dollars on all of these drills, we should be spending that money on developing clean energy. Solar panels, windmills, hemp fuel, hydrogen energy, etc.

But what is this, Tree-Hugging-Hippie-Land? We don't want that sissy crap, this is America, and we use fuel that pollutes the environment. USA!

Be very careful folks. Remember the last time obama was for drilling? A few short days later after obama supported drilling the Deep Water Horizon accident happened. Just remember obama does nothing that would support or be good for America.

It is not so much the number of permits approved, as who it is that has received the approval. BP gaining approval for anything should be the thing to raise red flags. I wouldn't approve those clowns to mow my lawn. They are WELL known in the industry for being total f*** ups, even before their last debacle.

As far as your claim to what the hell does a lawyer know about drilling...probably more than you do.

Tens of thousands of wells have been drilled in the Gulf of Mexico with one disastrous event. I'd say that is pretty safe. I'm from a small town called Cut Off, LA which is only 30 miles or so from the coast. I am very familar with the oil and gas industry as well as the BP spill.

I'm all for investing in clean energy. The truth is that technology is still a long ways away. In the mean time we still need oil and gas.
