I was afraid to post this because you can't hear the rumbling good. But Shauny posted his experience here www.abovetopsecret.com... and it was so similar. It was about 3 a.m. last week (I think Tu night). I turned off the outside lights except for my son's bed room light. The lights seen in the video are street lights. They appear to move because there are trees between us. It was extremely loud and sounded like it was going to come over the horizon. I didn't say anything because first of all I was terrified (I'm embarrassed to say) - you can hear me breathing, and second of all I'm southern and don't like my accent. At one point I ran for the house. Then eventually I ran into the house because it got so loud. You can hear the noise with ear phones. You can also hear a dog barking and a bird chirp once in a while.

I don't know what the green thing is in the end. I used a little Kodak Easy Share camera.

Well you should have notified us sooner cause we could have maybe tracked it, if it wasn't coming from earth itself as I suspect. Your by the mountains right? Many caves this sound could be coming from im sure.

That's one reason I didn't post it. I live in the foothills of the Appalachians, but I live in the middle of a town. I thought maybe it was coming from a near by Public Works, but I've never heard that before!

You know, we have a rock quarry that maybe in that direction, but it's about 5 mi away. And still I've never heard that before. I work 3rd and I'm up at night a lot.

Good post...If it woke the birds up at night it was probably something not natural for that area...

Well, I guess that this could be somewhat frightening...

Any idea on how long it lasted? And did you ever heard this kind of ..... sound... before?

Intriguing, to say the least

I just put your marker on the Google Map.

Your sighting lines up with the line within 50 miles. Nearest others are WV and northern Alabama.

Hmm...I live right here on the Blue Ridge Parkway and didn't here anything at that time, nor have I hear this now "infamous" rumbling noises so many have. I'm keeping my ears opened though, because I would love to hear it personally and see what I make of it.
Thanks for sharing.

That wasn't half bad! When I just read your post in Shauny's thread I was expecting utter crap like the results I got. Yours was good enough and hey, good on you, I didn't hear you talking over the sounds! Now that's the way to go about recording this thing. The equipment doesn't do justice to what I know the sounds are like in person. There's no way from this video to get why you ran for the house. But I know. I could make out just enough over my iPad's speakers to know what you heard in person.

I heard a whistling noise and then rumbling like cars on a distant railroad track.
Thanks for not talking during the video and was a pretty good video I think.
If the wind is blowing ( ever tried to use one of those devices that magnify sound? ) you will hear
that over the mic instead of what you are trying to listen to.
Somebody might gufaw at running back to the house but I would also..what people think won't make a hill of
beans if something not nice really is out there.
Since I originally was from another part of N.C. well I have to say well..bashfully, the whole state always
seemed a little odd somehow..just my imagination i reckon.

Yes it was sooo loud. And guys, I AM a girl and I was scared. I may have debunked this myself, could very well have been the rock quarry. But I have never heard it before and I've lived here in town for 10 years. The rock quarry sounds an air raid alarm before using explosives, so that might not be what it was. I don't know how long it lasted. I blew it off as a street sweeper from hell.

That's exactly what I heard last week, I think it was Sunday early evening. I'm located in SE Texas on a remote farm. Far away from a major highway. It was loud, clear and enough to make me stop in my tracks. Lasted about 5 or so minutes, maybe longer. Never heard anything like that before out here. Couldn't even figure out what direction it was coming from. I can't explain the feeling except I knew in my gut it was not good. It has bothered me ever since.

I just have to say that is one of the cutest "scary, ominous rumbling sound" videos I have ever seen or heard!

With the sound of your slightly terrified breath and then turning to flee as the ominous sound grew louder, only to briefly take flight then turn back towards the doom for one last foreshadowing of evil video reference...... priceless! I do believe you had my heart racing as if I were there at 3 a.m. alone with you too.

S&F!

I don't think you can write it off as the rock quarry yet. I can't be completely sure due to the limitations of the recording device and those of my IPad speakers, but I think we have a pretty good match here between your sound and what I've heard in Maryland and I'm not near any rock quarries. I'm near a few small farms withmodest farming equipment and a few strip malls, and a couple of busy roads whose sounds are long familiar and identifiable to me.

Long before this rumbling started, going back to about 2009 and off and on a few years before that, the military did indeed do some mighty strange activity for this area. There have been times military jets have circled over my subdivision...over and over and over again for about half an hour. Just doing donuts in the sky. Nice to know Uncle Sam can spare the money for the fuel on the taxpayer's dime like that when hardworking folks have to scrimp and scrape for the price of the commute to their jobs...but I digress. And nice to know they don't give a crap about noise pollution over a quiet residential area.
I've seen dark colored military helicopters buzz over my house...and yes, it was way before I was on ATS. They were hauling butt somewhere. And one night three military jets chased a fourth with different colored lights in the skies over my home. The noise was horrible. I actually ran out with my then toddler in my arms to see what was shaking the house. No they weren't chasing a UFO. It was all jets, persuers had red lights, I think, and the odd man being chased had green...I think. It could have been th other way around. Odd, but probably some sort of exercise.

So I'm no stranger to Uncle Sam's toys messing around over my neighborhood, making a racket, even though as far as I know we are not near any air bases or on any regular flight path. But this rumble is different. I've heard it here, and one similar though not entirely identical over Myrtle Beach. The sound is ominous. Especially if you are out in the open, like we were at the beach. Even my husband was creeped out by it and he barely acknowledges the few rumbles he's heard here at home. (He was still at work for the loudest incident I heard of in February 8.).

When you hear it you really feel like there is some kind of ominous presence over you. Like a giant cat watching and waiting to pounce. Or a huge mothership about to uncloak and give you the shock of your life. I'm not sure whether to be glad so many other people are hearing this or to be scared we are reaching a tipping point to something that is about to intrude rudely on our daily lives and change everything.

Is that your recording or one you found? That one has a distinct metal sound like someone taking a very large sheet of metal and shaking it to make a rumble. That aspect differs from the rumbles I've heard in that mine have been lower pitched even when very loud. More of a jet rumble or deep roll of thunder than higher pitched peals of thunder. Otherwise there is similarity in the repetitive aspect and some of the rumbling. If it was your recording, when you heard it live did it sound like it was surrounding you from many directions?

Nice and freaky! Did you stop recording when you ran back in? Shame!

I don't know why I stopped recording. It's probably because I didn't want anyone to see the heaps of clothes in my messy laundry room.
